Variants:
Navy: Standard model, armed with twin 40mm Raging Inferno cannons, the 30mm ventral guns, and other standard armaments. No cryo tubes
Navy - Strike: Same as the Navy standard but armed with 60mm I-KRC “Raging Inferno” Cannons with missile tubes nuclear capable.
IIA - Lawbringer: Model outfitted with cryo tubes, mine deployment and nuclear capability removed. Can be used for interdiction, transport of small number of prisoners, and various other tasks of IIA
Navy/IIA - JSTARS: This variant is used by IIA and the Navy as a mobile radar unit in support of either fleet actions or border patrol in case a fight breaks out. The long range radars in these units can feed information to other fighters or capital ships and prove to be extremely useful for combat operations.
Navy - Scout: With some assistance from Erineos’ Yakaiev Design Bureau, the Navy fielded a scout model of the Nur, rather than having to rely on Thyserian Strikers. The scout model is equipped with scanning equipment, extra food storage, and sleeping pods for the crew in order to participate in scouting missions that may last up to 1 month before needing to return and resupply.

Description:
During the Krogan Civil War, the only fighter accessible to the Empire was the Rohnok, once intended as a stopgap that ended up the only fighter available for centuries. Compared to the Thyserian Royal Navy which unleashed the YA-500 Saber during the war, and had a good deal of versatile fighters and even a bomber available, the Empire had no real ability to send out Krogan pilots, save in a Rohnok.

Nur Arack, the undisputed top scoring ace of the Independents during the war, survived and joined the Empire after his chief, Nur Ivor, swore loyalty to Emperor Blite. Aside from being the head instructor at a new school dedicated to training Krogan pilots for the Imperial Navy, he was also made a consultant to EGA due to his mechanical aptitude with fighters. Arack went about making an interceptor suitable for Krogan and for use by Krogan. Having flown against the Empire and fighting Thysera’s Scimitars, Sabers, and Zeros, he has plenty of experience on what the Asari-designed fighters are capable of...and wanted something like that for the Empire.

The result was a large craft which could, on its own, be seen as a small corvette. Despite the size, it has excellent zero-g mobility, a shock given how massive it is; testing proven it more than capable of engaging in a dogfight with the smaller and extremely agile Yakaiev Saber. Named for Arack’s clan, the Nur came into being as the first Krogan piloted fighter craft the Empire fielded. It was also distinct as a Krogan vessel due to its wedge shape and size.

The Nur, similar to the Striker/Thresher developed by Yakaiev, also had a long range component in mind. While not Arack’s desire at first, the idea grew on him, if only to see the Nur serve outside the Imperial Navy. The fighter can be fitted with cryo sleep chambers if desired and can also carry enough consumables for the crew of four that lasts a week. This gave the Nur the ability to serve with Imperial Internal Affairs; rather than having to use one of the larger and (comparatively) costly Pyjak frigates, a Nur could be used for transport of smaller numbers of prisoners. Especially so since the Nur is equipped with a jump drive, similar to the Scout model of the Striker.

Aside from being able to engage in gunfights with high caliber 40mm Imperial-Kolvant Rotary Cannons of the “Raging Inferno” variety as well as 30mm ventral I-KRCs, the Nur could also be deployed as a strike fighter. The Nur is also nuclear capable, being able to carry a single high yield bomb or missile. It is also equipped with a mine laying system that can carry up to 36 mines. This could be used, as intended, to lay mines in a system or, in the hands of a more experienced pilot, as impromptu munitions against capital ships. An anti-ship variant of the Nur packs larger 60mm guns in place of the 40mm guns.

A downside to the Nur is its massive size. The design is geared towards operation on Krogan capital ships that were designed after the Civil War. It’s far too large to be used in the launch tubes of the Thyserian vessels, only being able to operate out of the flight pods at best. Simply put, outside of their vassals’ capital ships pods, it is unable to operate from other capital ships, like that of the Hierarchy, Systems Alliance, etc. The Nur is also an abysmal atmospheric fighter for the same reason; while it is more than capable of atmospheric strike missions, there are various other craft that are more than capable (EGA Klixen, AtV Varigyr Stealth Bomber, YA Super Scimitar Strike Fighters, Strikers and Threshers.) While the Nur may match a Saber in space, in atmosphere it would be taken down in short order.

In atmosphere, the Nur also fulfills an interesting niche in being able to drop resupply pods to allied forces. These can contain more thermal clips, ammo blocks, and other items needed by Imperial Troopers or their vassals in a combat zone. Though this feature is not deployed often due to the interceptor’s poor atmospheric handling, it has been employed in various clan skirmishes and war games with great success thus far.

The Empire, eager to reduce reliability on Thyserian air power, also found the Nur extremely versatile in its construction. The interceptor itself, serving with the Imperial Navy, has seen adaptation as a patrol fighter equipped with long-range scanning equipment and use by Internal Affairs for interdictions and various patrol missions. A scout model had also been developed with support from Yakaiev Design Bureau, allowing the Empire to send a crew to scout the Terminus for up to one month’s time before resupply is necessary.
