Kay, im sort of proud of myself today.
To start things off, I had to fix my lamp today since i have none of my homework done, and alas, my fingers were too big to put in some of the screws, so i needed a magnetic screwdriver. Didn't have one. So I built an electromagnetic one. ^^ Just wrapped some wire around the one i did have and attached the wire to a 9v battery. The best part was it stayed magnetized afterwards, so now I have one. ^^ Yaaaaaay.
Also, a couple days ago, I got bored, and tried electroplating a penny with pyrite . (I'm not too sure if this would've worked though) I strung a bunch of leftover batteries I haad lying around, and when i was finished I grabbed one of my dads volt measurey things and i only had about 4 measly volts. This simply would not do, I barely got a tingly feeling on my tongue when i liked the wires. Alas, an idea hit. I went into our garageand grabbed some old solar power yard lamp things, and took out the solar panel things. Connected 6 of them together. (i wont tell you how. ^^) Bridged them, and whala! A darn good 12 volts (quite a zap!) so i had a solar powered powersource. The only down part was the wire i was using was touching the water, so it disintigrated and fell apart. Anyways, fun stuff.
Anybody here ever scratch made anything using stuff you have lying around?
eww, my avi's all grainy...

Hey, be careful with 12V DC. If you get killed, I'm going to have to find a clean shirt for your funeral.

Also, My whole family fabricates whatever we need all of the time.

Remember, you know my Phone#, so if you need any tools or materials, I probably have them. Have bike, will travel.

- I can't think of anything I've built from scratch that actually did something. Unless you count wooden bridge models and cardboard things.
- So you're saying I can't possibly hurt myself with a 9 volt battery, but a difference of 3 volts can? Hmm...If I got an old phone charger that changes the AC 120 volts from the outlet to DC 5 volts on the phone and cut it and touched the open end, I wouldn't get hurt?

Sometimes, but the stuff I do isn't too complicated. Made a bag that's ducktaped onto a crutch so you can carry stuff while using crutches. People made fun of me to no end, but it was so useful I didn't dare take it off. I'm more of a repairman than a scratch builder, though. In my backpack I carry: A stapler, scissors, tape, hole puncher, 3-by-5 cards, rubber bands, paper clips, etc, etc. I just use what I have to the most efficiency, but I don't really build stuff all that much.

Jan, it's just a matter of amps. It takes 6 milliamps to stop your heart, and if you have that many amps in a power source, and you are dumb enough to complete the circuit, then you may be killed. 9V batteries do not have the amperage to kill you, but a car battery, with 12V DC and 18 amps, can. 120 V AC is safer than DC, because it will give you a chance to pull away between fluctuations, so electrocution is less likely. DC will grab you and hang on. The issue is that DC has a lower voltage, but stronger current(amperes), while AC has higher voltage, but lower amperage. Either way, if you don't know what your doing, don't touch the wires. If in doubt, call an expert.

Also, I recently fabricated brackets to hold my new turn signals in place( the old ones were bigger than the replacements).

If you guys want a project, buy a vehicle that's as old as mine and try to replace all of the electrical components correctly. I was fortunate enough to have a CJ-3A instead of a CJ-5, which would have made the wiring much more difficult.

Hey, if anyone wants to say something bad about being able to fix your car on the side of the road, then I'll have to prove the superiority of my Jeep. Also, I already have a car, a 01' Dodge truck. The Cj is a hobby, and almost finished.
