- Thanksgiving's passed and I spent it with my friends instead of with my family. I noticed something about how people use utensils. I prided myself in thinking I always knew the proper way to formal dining, but then I doubted myself. - I've always held the fork in the left and the spoon in the right. I use the fork as a supporting utensil and the spoon as the main scooper. I stab with the fork and pick up foods that don't need to be cut up. I use the spoon to pick up foods that are in clumps, like corn or peas. However, if I want to mix the food together, I use both utensils to get the food onto the spoon. I switch the spoon with the knife for cutting tougher foods, like steak. However, if the food is soft enough, but too large, I stab it with the fork to prevent it from moving and cut it with my spoon. - Isn't it faster to have two utensils in hand at all time? Or is it unheard of to use a spoon and fork simultaneously? Cause doesn't the concavity of the spoon make it better at holding food? |

Never really had a system, never really liked it at all, I just do what feels natural I consider silverware too trival for stuff like this. Although I mostly have two utensils at a time and always cut with a knife or the side of a fork ifa knife isn't need at all for the meal. |

- I alternate my system depending on the food. This was all subconscious, but now I'm keeping active tabs on which utensils I grab and for which foods. - I use the fork in my right hand with no other utensil for foods that are already in a chewable size. Most meat goes into this category. All pastas go into this category for me. I also use it for finger foods when I don't feel like getting my hands dirty, like chicken nuggets. During dessert, I use a fork for most bread style foods, like cake and pie. - I use the spoon in my right hand with no other utensil for foods that are small and in groups. As said before, peas and corn. Mushy food like mashed potatoes. I use the spoon for soup. For dessert, I use it for ice cream. - I use them in combination (Fork left, spoon right) when both groups are on the same plate. However, as one group of food dwindles, I put one of the utensils down and switch it to my right hand if necessary. For a full meal, that's usually the case for me. But during my regular meals, I only need one utensil. Especially when my regular meals can be eaten with just my hands. - Oh, and knives. Used in conjunction with a fork for cutting tough meat. Used alone usually for bread. - And I always get a brand new utensil if I move on from main course to soup or desert. - I have no clue why I'm finding this so fascinating. I think I'll make a YouTube video about this. Me eating different foods and which utensils I use. Someone would watch it. |

- This Thanksgiving break has actually been really active for me. Yesterday I got to change into 3 different people's pants in a course of 15 minutes. And today I someone steered a question about when my winter break is to a yell fest about how I don't care about my parents and somehow get kidnapped. - But, I kinda do feel like making an instructional video on how I eat while I wear a suit and have like 5 utensils on each side of the plate whilst wearing a napkin. I'll pour some apple cider into my wine glass and hold it pinky up. |

I would, but I am equally fascinated by this, wierd. Also my mom taught me the "proper" way to eat, you know, the way that involves about 20 different utensils. I only remember the following: The small spoon that goes above your plate is for stirring milk into coffee or tea. The small fork above your plate is used for desserts. The small fork on your left is used for salads. The large fork on you left is used for eating meats. The small knife set off to the side was for spreading butter. The knife on your right is for cutting food. The spoon on your right is used for soup's. The thing is ther is also a TINY :censored:ING FORK somewhere but i dont remember where it goes or what it does. I think it was for getting croutons for salad or some trivial like that.also jan why are you still censoring curse words? We are all grownups here, we can handle it. |

Agreed on the age thing. My family is much less, um, formal about how to eat. Basically, our utensils work this way: The big spoon gets stuff out of the pot The medium (tablespoon) spoon gets stuff out of the serving dish The small(teaspoon) is used to eat. The full size fork is the primary fork The little fork is for when you run out of full size forks. The sharp knife is for cutting the dull knife is for butter. And occasionally, you use whatever you need to eat. Jeez, I've used a combat knife as a steak knife when there weren't enough. |

oh wow... also i was talking to my mom earlier. that TINY :censored:ING FORK! is called a morsel fork, its used for eating tiny things like shrimp or escargot. also heres a pic of the full setup. a dessert fork is show at the top here, but may be substituted for a dessert spoon. EDIT: HOLY HUGE :censored:ING PICTURE! replacing it with a smaller one. |

fuck It works now. After over two years, I finally took the 5 minutes to fix it. My logic is some 5 year old will wander here. Someday. I don't know how, but they'll find a comic about cute animals and BAM, the forums. I might change the picture though just to make it more humorous. Like, um..."female dog" be a picture of a character. - I have never had a truly proper meal that required all that. Though, given time, it would become instinct to not use the salad fork for desert. |

DUDE, Your comic has freaking nudity in it. I would be more worried about that then the cursing. And comic gen only puts co ics that have recently updated on the front page... and you're not exactly updating often, i doubt you will get anyone new for a while. Besides, our newest member was what? a few months ago? and our youngest is still 16 or something. We don't have to worry about the 5 year olds dude. And if they manage to find a webcomic as obscure as yours on the internet, they have probably already heard their fair share of cursing. |
