I thought I would start a topic that we could add to as necessary over the next three months prior to crossing the border in to Mexico. I'll start, and we'll simply add to the list as it gets longer... 1) A 12 volt fan. This trip we won't always be plugged in to sufficient electrical to power an air conditioner. Ruth and I often dry camp in Mexico and love our 12 volt fan. It hardly uses any electricity and we leave it on aimed at us all night when sleeping during hot humid nights. There is a section on this forum with a list if you scoll down from the home page "Check list". You may want to add stuff there as well. |

yeah...12 volt fan is a good idea. This is our first trip like this into Mexico and with a group of fellow RVers. We are looking forward to meeting everyone and getting to know each other. That said, Where in this forum could we introduce ourselves? We think it's a great idea to introduce and get to know a wee bit about each other before the trip. Lastly, how much "hiking" will there be and do you recommend bringing hiking boots or will a good pair of sneakers suffice? Thanks! Lynnette and Paul |

Hiking is not scheduled but I know Kevin & Ruth are avid hikers so I am sure they will be arranging that sort of stuff. |

Kenny and I are looking at the supply list, again. We are wondering about water "systems". Could someone with experience please chat about this? I am waiting to be added to the email list, I am Kenny's wife. Both of us are from Idaho, near the Canadian border, getting ready to roll because the mornings are very chilly here. It's nice to have this forum and new way to get acquainted. Thanks for any replies, Gail Burkett |

If you have a CPAP machine or for any other reason need distilled water bring plenty with you. In the Yucatan, at least, it is next to impossible to find. I don't know about the rest of Mexico. Everybody has purified water but nobody has distilled. |

Actually, distilled water is available in just about any auto parts store in Mexico. |

If you want to do some hiking on our days off, we will definitely be organizing some trips for those who want to join in. Ruth and I do lots of walking and hiking! |

Hi, Last trip into Mexico we filled our holding tanks with whatever water was available. We used this for dishwashing by adding bleach. For cooking, drinking etc we bought purified water readily available in Mexico. You bring your own containers and have the Mexicans transfer from their bottles to yours. We were lucky to also have a couple in our group that had a very expensive water purification system that shared water but few people have that luxury. When we crossed back into the US we purged our water tanks and sterilized them with bleach and I am happy to report we experienced no health problems. Some in our group would not put unknown water into their RV tanks and were buying five gallon bottles of purified water to put in their holding tanks so that is also an option. |
