Those green ones are the ones I had !! Haven`t seen one for forty years !! What do you call the bright red kind ?? And to think all the time you were hiding them in Tennessee.. Is Tennessee in the United States ? Do they speak English there ? |

Well I did some learning about red spotted newts and the red one is the land stage of the same animal ! Years ago before computers there was NO information . the books if there were any to find were very brief and ether so technical that you couldn`t understand them or so basic as to be worthless .. It would be fun to keep some again .. I do believe that the [orange ]salamander was a different breed ?? |

You are correct..that is the "eft" stage...they are terrestrial in that stage...the large orange spotted one is not a newt...it is a Cave Salamander...I find them quite often during my early spring herping trips...as for the location...it was there in Tn...lol cant go giving up all my hot spots now can I? lol I will gladly take on a few people on a herping trip this spring...knowledge is no fun if ya cant share it with others.
