Other NFL crapola from Packmule:

-Terry "Tank" Johnson of the Chicago Bears has pleaded guilty to misdemeanor weapons charges in a deal with prosecutors. Johnson, already serving time as part of a 120 day jail sentence for another charge, will also have to donate $2500 to the Gurnee Police Department and another $2500 to a local charity in Gurnee(a neighboring suburb of Chicago). This plea deal is the result of Johnson's arrest after a police raid on his home, back in December of 2006. Authorities found a stockpile of weapons that would rival a National Guard armory, including various semiautomatic handguns, a shotgun, and a high-powered assault rifle, all of them unregistered. His membership with the National Rifle Association not withstanding, I hope Tank Johnson concentrates, in the future, more on helping the Chicago Bears on the playing field, and less time on his gun collection. The article link: Tanks a lot: Johnson pleads guilty to misdemeanor charges

-Michael Vick recently met, in private, with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, to talk with the commish about his spate of off-field personal problems. The link: Vick vows to make positive changes I hope, for his sake, that Michael Vick can turns things around. There is a growing skepticism, among sportswriters here in Atlanta, GA, that he'll actually do it. Time will tell. confused

With all the talk about the Dallas Mavericks and their 67-15 won-loss record this year overlooked, IMO, was the continued success of the San Antonio Spurs, who posted a very good 58-24 W-L record this season. In fact, this is the third consecutive year that San Antonio has won 50 games or more, and their leader, Tim Duncan, made the NBA All-Defensive Team, again. After dropping their first playoff game to the Denver Nuggets, the Spurs have brought Denver back to reality, winning three in a row. Dallas may still be a favorite to represent the Western Conference in the NBA Finals, but I would not rule out the Phoenix Suns...or the San Antonio Spurs: Spur of the moment: San Antonio a consistent winner

Glad to hear you have something in common, conversationally, with your doctor. When it comes to conversation with my doctor it's usually brief and to the point. With most of his assistants, it's nonexistent: they have a general dislike for me. I believe it's because I don't suck up to them. My doctor says it's because they don't like my blunt, direct manner of talking. It's probably, in all likelihood, a combination of both. I have talked with my girlfriend, Gloria, about this. I seem to notice that many times women seem put off by me, and for seemingly no reason. Gloria has told me that I often look angry, even when I'm not. She also says that sometimes she can "hear" anger in my voice, even when I'm in a good mood. These things, she says, will almost always, and immediately, put women off, whether they know me or not. shifty eyes

Not really sure why, but I think it's a positive thing, especially given the current cost of soda
And, I would think, because of the caffeine these soft drinks are loaded with...or are they? eyebrow

To be perfectly honest, I'm not sure. I've only signed a lease twice in all my years of renting and in both instances, it was a year's lease. Perhaps he'd be willing to go the sixth month route....guess it never hurts to ask. Thanks for the suggestion
You're right. It never hurts to ask. One other thing I would suggest: when you and/or Carol talk to your (potentially) new landlord do not intimate that you are looking to move out, or reveal anything about your difficulty in finding an alternative locale with which to live: he could try and use your quandary(with the rent increase) against you and your roommate. Another suggestion: without revealing the rent increase's effect on you and Carol ask him if there's anything you two can do for him around the grounds(and/or inside the building) that might warrant a break, monthly, on your rent. :)

but what, in your opinion, Lee, saves the film from falling into a comedy of errors?
Well, just my opinion here, but several things help to keep this film from being a flat out comedy:

1. Godzilla's attack on the Arctic base: Godzilla wades ashore quite deliberately and immediately attacks the base, establishing early in this film that's he's not returning to Japan to sample the restaurants and take in a Yomiyuri Giants baseball game.

2. Kong's brief stroll through Tokyo: though I would have liked to have seen Kong showcased here in a longer "city destruction scene" his actions are, however brief, fairly destructive. First he blasts the corner of a building to smithereens with his fist, then picks up a train and, removing the lone occupant(a Japanese woman), proceeds to toss the train down into a building. I also liked Kong's plowing through the high tension electrical lines, during which he flattens several houses with his feet, after "chewing" on them momentarily(to absorb the current)

3. Kong Vs Godzilla II-the "castle" scene: at the end of the Mt. Fuji battle Kong and Godzilla demolish the huge castle, then tumble over the cliff into the ocean. I thought this part of the battle looked good.

4. Godzilla and the "train" sequence: I also liked the segment where Godzilla appears in Hokkaido and, after the train is evacuated, the monster proceeds to plow through the stopped train, the train cars demolished and tossed about like toys under Godzilla's feet.

I could name a few other scenes as well. It was these I've listed and a few others I haven't that keep this film halfway serious. It's easier to take the original, Japanese version more seriously, that the "Americanized" version, IMO of course. :)

My last order didn't arrive as quickly as I felt it should, but then, it never does
lol I received my DeepDiscount order today, approximately 21 days after it's posted(at their website) ship out date(4/10). If you can tell me how a parcel can take 21 days to transit from Illinois to Atlanta, GA then you're a smarter person than I am. There is never a post date on the DeepDiscount parcels, which to me indicates they are not eager to allow customers to see when the USPS actually stamps these parcels during their initial stage of transit. This in turn suggests, to me anyway, that DeepDiscount is not always shipping out these orders on the dates that are posted at their website. Aside from this the only other possibility, albeit admittedly a slight one at that, is that the USPS has reinstituted horse and buggy transportation for general media mail between the midwest and southeast.

I would like to expand my online purchasing sites a bit, just to test the waters, so some of your sites, I haven't ordered from, I will keep in my DVD shopping faves and hopefully, give them a chance.

Reminder: if you need any info on the "DVD-R" sites I order from, periodically, let me know by PM. :)

I do have an account with Yahoo, so perhaps trying their auction site would be worth checking into.

Yahoo! is, IMO, very service oriented. I know. I have a domain, "Monsterland", that is part of a web hosting plan I have with Yahoo. When I first inquired to Invisionfree tech support about a web hosting service for my domain they recommended Yahoo, as IF and Yahoo have, as I was told, a fairly close working relationship. I have had two questions regarding my domain setup, both of which I was ably assisted by a Yahoo customer service rep (by phone) each time. They are friendly, helpful people. thumbs up

At least they played it where you live, here in England they never show films of that kind in the cinemas
eyebrow By that you mean they show no monster movies at all in the UK?

Also, thanks for the link packmule, the film looks good, just a shame the kaiju is a bit... well... small. Nevertheless the effects look nice
Glad you liked the link. I liked the film a lot. As for the kaiju being "small", it is smaller than the 50 meter(or taller) monsters we are accustomed to in "Godzilla" and other kaiju films, to be sure, but were the monster from The Host(2006) to appear you better believe I would be running in the opposite direction...really fast. freak out

The Official NFL Thread
Posted yesterday at MSN.com: Tennessee Titans CB Adam "Pacman" Jones has, as expected, officially appealed his season long suspension to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. Goodell, who will hear "Pacman's" appeal, has said that the appeal will be heard within the next two weeks. Jones, drafted out of West Virginia, has played in the NFL for two full seasons now, as a cornerback and kick returner for the Titans. His stellar performance on the field for the improving Tennessee Titans is in stark contrast to that off the playing field, where his personal life has been nothing short of a complete disaster, marred by run ins with police, and in the most recent incident, a nightclub shooting. If Jones wins his appeal he would be allowed to play after serving a ten game suspension. The Titans, in anticipation of losing Adam Jones for the upcoming NFL season, have drafted two defensive backs(a safety and cornerback) in the 2007 NFL draft. Personally, I hope Goodell denies Jone's appeal, and that the Titans CB is forced to serve an entire season's suspension. I also believe that, for Jones to win his appeal, he will have to hire a lawyer with the same oratory skills as Perry Mason, which I don't think will happen.

Late addendum: The Carolina Panthers have cut WR Keyshawn Johnson. The link: Just give me a damn job-Panthers cut Keyshawn Johnson

Though I have a "Bigfoot" thread at this site this creature will make it, on occasion, into this topic as well. Here's a short video by a youngster who allegedly shot a brief clip of a "strange hairy humanoid creature": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yWOKwyT_xrU

Funny thing is, as scatter shot as this lad's commentary is, this video seems hardly rehearsed, which is the first thing that, in my mind, discredits a video of anything unusual. eyebrow

in fact this reminds of the Pistons last year when they had the best regular season record except they got a lot farther than the Mavs did
And there are two reasons, I believe, for that: 1) superior defensive effort, defensive commitment and defensive execution by Detroit and 2) more mental toughness from the Pistons players. Not saying the Mavs are patsies, but sometimes I think they can be had by a more physical, more defensive-minded team. Just my opinion.

The All-NBA Defensive Team was announced a short while ago. No surprises, to me anyway, at who made it. Congratulations to Marcus Camby who was voted the 2006-7 NBA Defensive Player Of The Year. The article link: Ministers Of Defense: the All-NBA defensive team announced
