...but The Untouchables had a ton of promise, but somehow, didn't feel like it worked out in life, as it might have on paper
There were many things that I liked about The Untouchables(1987): Sean Connery who played "Mike", the seasoned Irish-American street cop whose savvy really came in handy to Elliott Ness, a determined guy to be sure but naive about how to go about nailing Capone. Speaking of Al Capone I also liked Robert DeNiro's performance. I have longed considered DeNiro to be among the top actors of the last thirty years. Billy Drago also was convincing as the scumbag hitman hired by Capone. My disappointment in this movie was in Kevin Costner, who played Treasury agent Elliott Ness. Costner's acting was, IMO, serviceable, but as the primary protagonist in this film that doesn't cut it with me. His acting paled, IMO, to that of Connery and DeNiro. Costner's films, as a whole, are "hit and miss" with me.

"Kevin Costner" films I liked:

No Way Out(1987)
Field Of Dreams(1989)
Bull Durham(1988)
The Bodyguard(1992)
Dances With Wolves(1990)
Wyatt Earp(1994)

And the "Costner" films I didn't like at all:

Revenge(1990)
Message In A Bottle(1999)
Waterworld(1995)
Open Range(2003)
