As a teenager I found this film to be too campy and the fistfights seemed so ridiculous I could hardly stand to watch it...but I watched it again a couple years ago and was able to see it in a different light. I don't take everything nearly as serious as I did when I was an overachieving teen, and the film came off as fun and now I see it as one of my fave Wayne films. I also feel this way about Big Jake, a film that has Wayne playing Jacob Mc Candles, a tough-guy whos trying to get his grandson back from some bandits. One of the humor points of that movie is that everyone he encounters in the film asks him who he is, then after he answers they all say "Mc Candles? I thought you were dead!" By the end of the film Waynes character is getting pissed about it. Im still not sure I really see the humor in it though.
