I don't hate this film and I try very hard to like it, but it falls into that area of films that I apperciate more than anything else. I appreciate the fact that Toho was trying to make another film for Godzilla fans to enjoy, but I think there for a while, there was far too much emphasis on adding 'cute' kids to the mix and I'm not a child-hater in any sense of the word, but I think making a child the main focus in a film such as this or some of the Gamera films made the stories too juvenile.....perhaps if Toho wanted to bring a much younger fan base into the fold, they could have made a sub-genre of films geared just towards the kids and concnetrated on more adult themes for the adult fan-base of Godzilla.
According to a pair of extremely detailed books I have on Godzilla, the reason Godzilla's Revenge was such a "child-intensive" movie was due, in large part, to competition from Daiei, who was producing the Gamera films, themselves now focusing more on children with 1968's Destroy All Planets.
