After Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans, and in the ensuing months, there was an atmosphere of rabid bigotry and hatred between black and white individuals at a Yahoo discussion group in topics about the violence in New Orleans and the Super Dome following the catastrophic devastation of the hurricane. The racial epithets thrown around by those participating in the discussion reminded me of dialogue I once read in a Civil War book(a work of fiction). Man, that's just disgusting... You know that Houston got most of the New Orleans guys, right? I had a bunch at my school, and some even stayed. I never heard anything bad said to one of them. I did hear the word a lot in the locker room, but the kid who did most of that got sent to an alternative campus for saying it in the presence of a black girl. It wasn't really a heated situation, though. Everyone was laughing about it. The girl included. The kid (who had that same year told me I needed to 'fix my face' and asked me if I was 'retarded') was denying everything. He got shipped away, though. He was lucky if you ask me. In the locker rooms that same period, he'd attempted to set another kid's hair on fire for stealing his cigarettes. That good ole Ax / lighter combination. :rollseyes: (I imagine downtown was worse) packmule Topic: do you think, Thilian, that "Dubya" will judged, historically, as one of this country's worst Presidents?
