..it was just nice to see a woman kick some behind and not shrink back and do little to save her own skin.

Ellen Ripley(played effectively by Sigourney Weaver) certainly "kicked some behind", as you say-her method of defeating the alien monster was very clever(by blowing it out into space). There is no doubt that this film is not as fast-paced as it's direct sequel, Aliens, which was released seven years later in 1986. Still, I absolutely approve of this film as the "starter" film for the "Alien" series-it is a grim, dark, humorless, steady, methodical movie that blends suspense, terror, and gore like a fine-looking painting. As I have stated before, the acting and storyline must be good, and the actors, including Sigourney Weaver, Tom Skerritt, Harry Dean Stanton, Ian Holm, John Hurt, and Yaphet Kotto, all deliver. The score for this film also reflects the grim mood of the movie. thumbs up
