It came when I simply started thinking about logic
How do you use logic to come to the conclusion that there is no God? Now, from what I understand, many atheists(and I'm not saying necessarily you) have used the argument that if there is a God then there would not be so much tragedy and cruelty in our world. I have heard an atheist tell me that he simply doesn't believe in God because he has seen no physical evidence that God exists. Those who do believe in God often counter that we cannot prove he doesn't exist...and that that is reason enough to at least be open to the possibility that he does.

As for why I'm not an atheist, I can give no clear, defined answer. I have asked myself, many times, if I can accept, in my mind and heart, that there is no God. I just cannot live with that belief. I have had this feeling my entire life, that there is something more to me than just a physical being, and one whose existence is permanently ended at death. As for God I just have this sense that there's something of a higher power waiting for me after I die. Obviously I can't support my position with any facts. It's just a feeling I've had since as far back as I can remember. I may turn out to be wrong. I hope not.
There may come a day when I become an atheist. Every year I get a little more hard hearted about life in general, a little more "jaded", as a friend of mine who feels similarly has said in describing himself. :(
