After hearing you and China going on about it I have to see what all the fuss is about. I thought Charmane's summary of her own thoughts about this film were very astute. There are many films about that emphazise blood and gore, and while Hostel certainly has it's fair share of both there is, as "Madame X" pointed out, other forces at work in this film, which she touched based on, including I think, racism(European pre-conceptions about Americans, aided no doubt by the pot smoking, carefree young backpackers in the film). I bought this film out of curiosity Dan. I also like slasher horror and films like them, so I was fairly confident I would enjoy the film, from it's entertainment value, and nothing more. I would recommend renting it first, if you are not sure whether you would like it or not. I'll say this: after watching this film you may never look at your local grocery store's butcher shop the same again.
