http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/04/warner-b...-ray-exclusive/ With Warner announcing Blu-Ray exclusivity, it really makes you wonder how much this will tilt the Hi-def format war. The only studios HD-DVD has left are Universal and Viacom (Paramount, Dreamworks) and only Viacom signed a contract which means Universal isnt obligated to only that format. Personally, I cant see Toshiba's format making it long without Warner, even if Universal does stick with them exclusively. There just wont be enough new releases. Unless Toshiba has another trick up their sleeve of some sort, Im going to go ahead and guess it is near the end for HD-DVD. It might make it another year or so, but once the educated consumer realizes the lack of studio support, they aren't going to buy the players anymore, even if they are cheaper than BD players. Overall though, I think regular DVD will still outsell either of these new formats for quite some time. Just my thoughts on the matter. |
