I remember seeing this film on TV as a kid and just thinking it was the best thing going. You know how it is, often we'll watch a film or TV series as a kid and spend years trying to track down a video copy or these days a DVD of that old fave and there are times when some films or series don't hold up as well as you recall. This isn't the case for, McLintock!, I picked this DVD up soon after I got my first DVD player and it certainly hasn't lost any of the fun I recall as a kid....I recently replaced the old bare-bones disc with the 'Collector's Edition' and I still pop this disc in, ocassionally. :D

What a cast this film has, O'Hara and Wayne did several films together and as usual, Wayne employed many of his regulars for roles in this film, including son, Patrick. The one scene that stands out for me is the big brawl with folks sliding down the muddy embankment and of course, the scene where Katherine McLintock (O'Hara) has pushed poor G.W. McLintock (Wayne) right to the end of his patience and he simply walks through the streets of the town at a steady pace, until he finally reaches Katherine and he spanks the daylights out of her! As a kid, that was wild stuff, as I'd never seen an adult, 'spanked'. Nice to see an adult could take it as much as we young'uns! ;)

The cast is huge and includes, Yvonee DeCarlo, Stefanie Powers, Jerry Van Dyke, Jack Kruschen, Bruce Cabot, Chill Wills and Strother Martin, just to name a few. Perhaps this film is better discussed in the comedy section, but with the western flair, I wasn't sure where to place it. :)
