Im back with a fourth review, now the fourth film Im reviewing is.. SHADOW OF THE VAMPIRE!

Posted Image

Willem Dafoe (He counts as one whole good thing)

The Score

Basing this film on a legend (The Legend is that Max Schreck was in reality a vampire which is why he played the role of Orlok so well in the Original Nosferatu)

The Makeup on Willem Dafoe was good and makes he look very similar to what Max Schereck looked like in the count Orlok Makeup.

The acting is decent

The Actors/Actress look very similar to the actors/Actress that was in the 1922 film

Uses some footage from the 1922 Nosferatu (It really fits the film well)

The "filming" of scenes is rather close to the scenes from the 1922 film

Pacing moves at a good speed

The dry Dark humor (It took me sometime to find it funny)

Makes you wonder who if the Vampire or F.W. Murnau was the real monster

Uses techniques that was used in silent films

Near the end of the film, Murnau gives the actress (who is meant to sacrifice herself to kill Count Orlok) a Wooden stake, in the 1922 scene you cant see a stake

The Vampire Teeth that Willem Dafoe has, isnt at the right size

Every Night shot was filmed in broad daylight in the original 1922 film

My top 3 favorite scenes:

1: Death of the Vampire

2: The Vampire Answering on what he thought of the book - "Dracula"

3: F.W. Murnau instructing the Vampire, who is acting like he is dieing, after he is meant to be stabbed with the wooden stake in the film.

My Favorite Tagline:

(There are no taglines for this film, but here's one I made up) "F.W. Marnau hired an actor, who didnt just play the role... he lived it."

My Favorite quote from F.W Marnau:

[Instructing the Vampire on his death scene]

F.W. Murnau: "DIE YOU.. YOU F**KING RAT BASTARD, VAMPIRE PIG, SWINEL S**T, YES DIE ALONE!" (I cut out the rest, since it isnt as funny as this, also Im sure that this isnt 100% accurate, since there was no subtitles)

My favorite quote from the Vampire:

[Answering why the book "Dracula", made him sad]

The Vampire: "Dracula hasn't had servants in 400 years and then a man comes to his ancestral home, and he must convince him that he... that he is like the man. He has to feed him, when he himself hasn't eaten food in centuries. Can he even remember how to buy bread? How to select cheese and wine? And then he remembers the rest of it. How to prepare a meal, how to make a bed. He remembers his first glory, his armies, his retainers, and what he is reduced to. The loneliest part of the book comes... when the man accidentally sees Dracula setting his table."

My Rating:

8/10 (While it has its flaws, it still does a good job "What If Max Schreck was a real vampire in Nosferatu (1922), I recommend watching this film, but first watch the Original Nosferatu film, it might help you enjoy it more)
