John Smoltz is 40 years old. Tom Glavine is around that age as well. I said it before and I'll say it again: these guys are now too old, IMO, to carry the rotation for the Atlanta Braves. Mike Hampton is a great pitcher when he's healthy. The problem: he never has been, for the Braves anyway. The owners of the Atlanta Braves, Time Warner, have set an $80 million budget for this team and is, IMO, only interested in seeing the Braves make a profit, and not win a World Series. Period. The use of aging players and re-treads from other teams, which the Atlanta Braves have been doing now for quite some time, is exactly why this team has hovered around .500(or a little lower) the last several years. As long as Time-Warner owns the Braves this team remains, IMO, a .500 ball club at best and a sub .500 team at worst. |
