Chapter 3: Dinosaur Clash Trees came crashing down and the ground shook. Shindo saw and American scream as he was crushed by a falling tree. A huge creature stood high above the trees, looking around and sniffing the air. It was wreathed in grayish skin, wrinkled like an elephant’s. It had a stocky body, it’s back covered in an armored carapace covered in small spikes. The monster’s long, spiky tail swooshed through the trees knocking several over with loud crashes. The four-fingered hands ended in sharp, curving talons, and a spiny mass of bone tipped it’s tail. The creature’s massive head possessed long, crocodilian jaws lined with razor-like teeth and a pair of sharp tusks, and the back of the head was crowned with curving spikes. The small, beady eyes burned with rage. The Angilasaur roared again, a long, echoing moaning sound. At that, the beast slammed down onto all four legs and began ripping into the jungle, searching for the humans. Machine gun fire rang out as the fleeing soldiers on both sides fled, firing wildly at the massive creature. But the tiny bullets just smacked into it’s elephantine skin, then fell to the ground. One of the surviving Japanese threw a fragmentation grenade at the monster’s feet, and the resulting explosion created a charred black burn on the monster’s foot. The Angilasaur moaned in pain, but kept advancing, ripping into the foliage, slaughtering an American soldier with it’s claws, then trampling a Japanese underfoot. Then, the Angilasaur suddenly stopped it’s advance, and started sniffing the air. Out of nowhere, a second roar boomed forth, this one much more high-pitched and metallic. The Angilasaur spun around, it’s tail whipping into a grove of ginkgos and toppling them in the way of the retreating troops. The Angilasaur looked around lividly, scanning the jungle for the source of the noise. And there it was, striding out into the open. The Gojirasaur looked like a standard therapod dinosaur, with the large head, small arms, and kangaroo body shape, but much bigger, at 75 feet long, and a bit more bulky, with sharp teeth and four clawed fingers on either hand. The Gojirasaur roared again, and the Angilasaur’s aggression peaked. On all fours, the spiky dinosaur charged across the flattened area of the jungle, casing the ground to tremble, then reared up upon coming in close, and slashed it’s sharp claws across the enemy’s shoulders. Blood spilled and the Gojirasaurus howled in pain, a loud shrieking sound. The predator was quick to respond, slamming it’s head into the Angilasaur’s chest. The plant eater was knocked onto it’s back and robbed of breath by the attack. As it staggered back to it’s feet, somewhat dazed, it would make sure that that wouldn’t happen again. The beasts met head on in a fury of claws and teeth. Their mouths latched onto each other’s shoulders, the sharp teeth digging in, as well as the Angilasaur’s tusks, and their claws slashed across each other’s bodies. Abandoning their escape attempts, the soldiers were transfixed on the event before them, and could only stare as the titans tore repeatedly into each other. Soon, each monster staggered backward, examining the other. They circled around, each waiting for the other to make the fist move. Finally, the Angilasaur flexed it’s legs and pounced. The Saurian beast hurdled though the air, claws bared, towards the Gojirasaur. But the opposing therapod was more than ready, and it leapt aside, causing the Angilasaur to crash headfirst into a large clump of trees. The Gojirasaur wasted no time pressing it’s advantage, and lunged forth, snapping his jaws around the Angilasaur’s spiky tail. Though the spikes made painful wounds inside the Gojirasaur’s mouth, the sharp teeth digging in incited a yelp of pain and surprise from the meat-eater’s prey. Letting go of the tail, the Gojirasaur began to stalk around the weak opponent, hungrily eyeing the Angilasaur with a predatory walk. Finally, just before the herbivore could rise to keep fighting, the Gojirasaur lunged forward and kicked it’s foe in the side, drawing blood with it’s claws. As the Angilasaur wailed in pain, the carnivore kicked again, slashing more cuts into it’s foe. The Angilasaur again tried to rise, but the Gojirasaur stomped on it’s spiky carapace, and (ignoring the pain from the spikes) punted it back into the ground. Then, the Angilasaur rolled over onto it’s back, and quickly clambered to it’s feet, only to have the Gojirasaur quickly lurch inward and sink it’s teeth into it’s foe’s neck. The Angilasaur struggled for a moment before the Gojirasaur pulled backward hard, completely ripping the other dinosaur’s throat out. In a shower of blood, the Angilasaur collapsed and lay twitching and bleeding profusely on the ground. The Gojirasaurus stood tall, victorious. With a vicious, echoing roar, it then proceeded to finish what the Angilasaur started. Turning towards the soldiers, it growled menacingly. They didn’t need to think hard for what it meant by this, and soon they were being pursued through the jungle by this tropical tyrant. The monster thundered along behind them, tearing through mighty trees and thick underbrush. Leaning down, it snapped it’s jaws shut on one of the American soldiers. They continued to run, blindly firing their weapons behind them, hoping to at least slow the dinosaur down. Each one, Japanese and American alike, could feel a horrible sense of incoming dread. They all felt death knocking. |
