This is an interesting, albeit somewhat sad topic, as it obviously involves death and those that may, because of some medical condition and/or catastrophic physical impairment, want to die.I agree. The problem, as I see it, and as you alluded to, is the potential(and actual) various legal interpretations of euthanasia. As far as I know euthanasia, that is, assisted suicide, e.g. what Jack Kevorkian was involved in, is illegal in the United States. I'm not aware of any state where it is legal. At this point my guess is it won't be legalized anytime soon by lawmakers because of the potential public and political backlash a state politician would endure, both public and political. While I generally agree with this statement I also do so on the condition that doctors have established, 100%, that the person would never have any chance of recovery, in any degree, from the condition. There will be those who advocate or are against euthanasia. Truthfully, I can see both sides here but I just personally feel a person should have the right to choose to die if they are physically incapacitated to the point that they cannot perform even the most basic of functions, bodily and otherwise, without the assistance of another person. Just my opinion. Agreed, absolutely! Unfortunately, the mental state of a person can also be debated, and subject to various interpretations by mental health professionals as well. |
