Chapter 9: We Meet Again The Angilasaurus was mutated, but not to the same extent. It shared Godzilla’s massive size, but other than that, morphological changes were scarce. The monster’s tusks were a bit longer, and the spikes covering the creature’s back armor were sharper, and more jagged. Perhaps the most unusual change was the creature’s tail club, or lack thereof. Angilasaurus, like other Ankylosaurs, had a mass of bone tipping it’s tail for defense. This mutation did not. But there was one thing that told Godzilla that this creature was the same one that Godzilla had killed the mate of 10 years ago, that Godzilla had tried to kill 5 years ago: the uncontained rage burning in it’s eyes. It was Anguirus. As soon as Anguirus had come to grips with who was standing before it (he could tell it was his old foe), he showed no mercy. So the mutant dinosaur hurtled forward with all of his might towards Godzilla. The fanged, tusked behemoth was ready to settle an old score. Godzilla was too surprised to react as Anguirus struck him full force, and sank his teeth into Godzilla’s shoulder. The wound itself was no too painful, but when Godzilla tried to shake his enemy off, Anguirus only closed his jaws tighter. As Godzilla slashed his claws against the spiked beast’s shoulders, he drew blood, but only encouraged his ancient foe’s wrath. But Anguirus’s rage could not be contained, and he desired to inflict as much pain as possible on Godzilla., so he dragged his long tusks and fangs downward, carving massive chasms of flesh that flowed forth with fountains of scarlet blood. Splattered with blood, Anguirus stepped back (rather pleased with himself) and examined the damage. Godzilla cried with pain for a moment, but Organizer G-1 was already at work. Quickly, the bleeding ceased, and the deep, ragged cuts across Godzilla’s torso began to close. Anguirus’s eyes widened in surprise, but he was quick to go on the attack again. As Anguirus lunged forward, Godzilla burned with fury from the damage he had taken. The power was struggling to escape…but as Anguirus hurtled forth, Godzilla reflexively turned to defend himself, and, via instinct, his tail lashed out and struck Anguirus right in the gut. Winded, the reptile fell back onto the ground, struck hard by the thick mass of muscle and bone. But he was immediately back on his feet and hostile. Lowering his head, Anguirus charged forward, aiming to ram his skull into Godzilla’s chest. But now, Godzilla’s mind was in combat mode. He moved to the side, and as Anguirus rushed past, Godzilla grabbed his head and flung him with extra force. The momentum of the throw combined with that of the charge, and Anguirus hurtled headfirst into a pile of rocks that crumbled down around him. Now, Godzilla could no longer contain his wrath. His dorsal spines flared up with a bluish glow, and rippling, atomic plasma centered in his mouth. After a second or so of gathering power, Godzilla spat a beam of pure, destructive radiation. The landscape lit up a vibrant blue, and the blast struck Anguirus’s stunned body. Anguirus could be heard screaming out in pain from within the inferno. As the blast died down and the flames cleared, Godzilla examined Anguirus. The reptile was unconscious, lying with his mouth hanging open, with his shoulder horribly burnt and scarred. Stepping back, Godzilla grasped his victory. Throwing back his head, he released his long, high-pitched, echoing screech, but this time, it ended with a deep, reverberating bass tone. He turned and looked out over the horizon. There was nothing left for him here. A distant land called to him. He felt it; a sense of purpose, a world that needed him… and so, with another roar, he headed down to the coast, waded into the ocean, and fell beneath the waves. A long swim was ahead. Godzilla’s limitless power was about to be unleashed on mankind. He had evolved from a harmless dinosaur to an engine of destruction. What, or who, could stop him? |
