Yesterday, I was doing some channel surfing and came across, Operation Petticoat on TCM. Since the film was pretty much over when I came across it, I decided to pull my DVD out and watch the film. This is one of those classic comedy films that perhaps on the surface doesn't appear that it could be all that good, but I love it. Grant and Curtis actually work well with each other and the supporting cast is just as solid....Dina Merrill, Joan O'Brien, Dick Sargent, Gene Evans, Virginia Gregg, Marion Ross, Gavin MacLeod and Arthur O'Connell. As the DVD synopsis can describe the film better than I ever could and in much less space, here's the synopsis from the back of the DVD: ******************************************************************** Cary Grant and Tony Curtis ship out for laughs and adventure in one of the most hilarious comedies to ever hit the high seas. Commander Matt Sherman (Grant) has his toughest assignment yet - to put a broken sardine can of a submarine back in action. Enter supply officer Nick Holden (Curtis), a master scavenger with the (illegal) means to get the Sea Tiger purring - or at least afloat. But after the rescue of five stranded (and beautiful) nurses, the grey, battle-scarred sub is suddenly transformed into a pink, party-ready hot tub. Now there' sonly one course of action Sherman and his men take - surrender! ******************************************************************** This film is a lot of fun and never bogs down at all, if you're even a casual fan of comedies, I'd definitely recommend this classic. thumbs up thumbs up |
