An absolutely hilarious film. I have also watched it before on TCM. Their are many funny subplots in this film, the best being the gruff(sort of) Captain(Cary Grant) vs supply officer extraordinaire Lt Holden(Tony Curtis).

Other funny parts of the movie:

1. the island "raffle" and casino(of sorts) set up by Holden in order to secure the needed supplies for their submarine

2. The sub ending up pink, as a result of the mixture of "red lead"(a Navy paint primer) and the paint itself(white in color)-uh oh, better get Maaco! tongue-1

3. The shenanigans between the Captain and the female nurse who exhibited exraordinary clumsiness-recall the scene where he sat on a pin cushion in her cabin hyper

4. Lt. Holden's theft of the large pig from the local farmer, and the transportation of the swine in their truck back to the sub, which was interrupted by two MPs along the way back. Holden and his compadre had to dress the pig up to resemble(if that's possible Mr. Piggy ) a crew member, referred to later as "Seaman" Hornsby tongue-1

5. the scene at the end-years later, Holden now the Captain of his own sub, with Admiral Sherman on the dock waiting for his wife, who shows up in a car, and in serious need of Taggart's Driving School-she impacts another vehicle and drags it away with its owner chasing on foot, shouting in hysterics laughing smiley

This film is one of the most delightful comedies I have ever seen, bar none. thumbs up
