Art Clokey of Gumby fame also directed a series for the Lutheran church back in the early 60s. The series followed the exploits of Davey Hansen, his dog Goliath and Davey's family....Dad, Mom and little sister Sally along with Davey's friends. I can remember back in the early to mid 70s, waking up early on Saturday mornings and rushing downstairs to watch two episodes of, Davey and Goliath. Each episode was only about 15 minutes long and while the series was based on religion, it wasn't anything that was forced down your throat and the episodes never felt 'preachy'. I recall the series also had a few 30-minute holiday specials as well and I remember being at my Grandmother's on Christmas Day and my cousins and I sitting around watching the Christmas episode. Several episodes of the series have been released to DVD and while in Canada, I found two volumes of the series I didn't have, in a grocery store! Mr Green |
