I think this is a pretty good film, not sure if I prefer this or the sequel, more, which in itself would be a shock, but a solid effort, i think. I remember the first time I saw the chest-bursting scene, I was staying at my Dad's and had to sleep in the basement that night.......they'd redone the basement, but it was still a creepy place, late at night! Probably an upside to this film was for any teen girls my age at the time, Sigourney Weaver gave us a female lead in a sci-fi/horror film that could hold her own against the an alien as well as most of the men on the ship. Up to that point, there never seemed to be a lot of female leads in a film that weren't in a role for anything other than her ability to be eye candy or for her ability to scream a lung out. Don't get me wrong, some of my favorite films have women that were more or less a screaming machine and I admire their efforts, it was just nice to see a woman kick some behind and not shrink back and do little to save her own skin. |
