In April of 1964 Toho released Godzilla Vs Mothra(1964). In my opinion this film is a true classic. Toho gets it all right with this film-the music, the actors, the score, and last(but certainly not least) the monsters, Godzilla and Mothra(adult and twin larval forms). The story: a giant egg is discovered floating off the coast of a Japanese village. The local villagers manage to beach the egg, and promptly sell it to a local businessman and self-proclaimed "great entrepreneur." Meanwhile, the twin fairies appear, appealing to a reporter, cameraman, and scientist to help arrange the rightful return of the egg to Mothra. They fail. In the meantime, Godzilla, buried at the beach(from the typhoon), emerges from the sand in grand fashion, and immediately goes on a rampage. The miltary tries, without success, to stop Godzilla. The trio of photog/reporter/scientist go to the fairies island and make an appeal to them for Mothra's assistance in stopping Godzilla. At first refusing to help, the fairies relent and Mothra promises to fight Godzilla, with a hitch: the giant winged monster is on her last life cycle, and her strength is fading. Mothra and Godzilla have a great battle. The egg is hatched by the chants of the fairies and the natives faraway. Two twin larval offspring set out to Iwo Island to engage Godzilla in the climactic battle. Post your comments and opinions about this film here. :)
