In 1992 Toho released Godzilla Vs Mothra. The story: to study climactic changes brought on by an asteroid slamming into the Pacific Ocean, a small group of people head to Infant Island. There they discover a giant egg and two tiny female fairies. One of the members of the group, through his boss and employer, Maritomo, arranges for the egg to be transported back to Japan(for presumably commercial purposes). They encounter a problem after departing the island: Godzilla, who has erupted out of the sea and interrupted their transit. The egg hatches, a larval form emerges and battles Godzilla. Shortly thereafter another monster, awakened by the asteroid collision, joins the fray: Battra, aka "The Black Mothra"(larval form). Godzilla and Battra fight on surface and below the waves, while Mothra swims away, back to Infant Island. Later, after the fairies are kidnapped, Mothra(larva) comes to Japan, then coccoons herself after being assaulted by the local military. The final battle includes all three monsters(Mothra and Battra in adult form). --Post your thoughts and opinions about this film here. :) |
