Chaos Side Stories

Story 1: Man vs. Beast

Part 1: Evil Uncovered

Unknown Japanese Lake, 1954

“Incoming!”

As Godzilla’s blue beam raced from the center of the lake, the soldiers on the beach ran aside, screaming, desperate to avoid the deadly blast. Among them was private Honda, one of the newer soldiers in the platoon, this being only his second year in the JSDF. As private Honda and his fellows ducked for cover, the beam plowed up a huge storm pf fire and smoke, and a shower of flaming chunks of rock fell, one of them crushing a pair of the unit’s finest men.

The rest of the small unit, now down to six men, including private Honda, fled into the forest, desperate to escape the rapidly spreading flames. Behind the men, the now-charred rocks continued to crumble away, revealing a sheet of brown, shell-like substance. In the forest, the men stopped running, catching their breath. Several tried to make radio contact, but somehow, their radios were being scrambled. “Well, then, we’ll have to move until we find another unit” one of them said. Then, suddenly, one of the men keeled over, groaning as if by a severe stomach ache. Private Honda, who was standing next to him, asked “are you feeling okay?” just before he fell to the ground, unconscious.

The eggshell cracked apart back at the lakeshore, a long, thin, insectoid leg extending outward. Slowly, the giant insect, resembling an 8-foot long, brown hybrid of a cockroach and an ant, ripped it’s way free of the now-exposed egg. The beast turned, hissing loudly at another, nearby egg. Quickly, this one too began to crack and split, before another such creature emerged forth. The process repeated again with a nearby egg, than another. The four insects hissed, probing the air with their antennae. They soon caught the scent of a pair of nearby food sources. Ripping away some of the rocky ground, the insects found a pair of crushed, burnt bodies. They wasted no time, ravenously devouring the corpses in no time flat. But they were still hungry. They caught another scent…

What are we gonna do? None of us are medics!” One soldier said, gazing down at the man who was sick with what they had determined to be radiation poisoning. “The radios are sill haywire, one of our men is sick, we have no clue where we are”. They all stood, and walked over, away from the sick man lying on the makeshift bed of leaves, to the boulder, where the two radios sat. One spoke up: “All we can do is move out and hope we find someone. As for… Hey, where did he go?” All the men looked, but the sick man was nowhere to be found, vanished from his bed.

Above, in a tree, a large insect fed ravenously on his body.
Who needs Toho Kingdom anyway? I'm a member at Monsterland Forums! Stick that in your pipe and smoke it!

I find the term "Zombie" to be offensive. I prefer to be called Vitality Impaired.
