Just watched this one. Of the Heisei series, I'd say this is my second favorite of the ones I've seen. I haven't seen Godzilla vs. Mothra, Space Godzilla, or Destoroyah yet. Space Godzilla sounds pretty bad, and I'm waiting until I can get a Japanese version to see the other two. That whole thing with the female scientist and baby Godzilla; Damn, that goes right to the heart. I was really surprised at how well it was done. I don't get emotional over many movies, and I don't cry, but for this movie I actually got kind of watery-eyed at the some of the scenes. Probably partially due to the Godzilla nostalgia and the beautiful Akira Ifukube score. I've still got problems with the movie, but I liked it a lot overall. Any Godzilla movie with that much of an emotional punch deserves some respect. The special effects were some of the best I've seen in the Heisei era. |
