I've never seen Scream, but I always got the impression from the trailer that it was sort of a satire of slasher flicks, while simultaneously being a slasher flick
There are numerous homages to older "slasher" horror films in Scream, no doubt because of Wes Craven's respect for these movies. While there are, I think, satirical elements to Scream you better believe there's still plenty of blood, scary scenes and over the top violence(by the killer) which you would fully expect from any Wes Craven directed film. winky
