EPISODE X: BATTLE AT TWO FRONTS June 2nd, 2044 Oskarsberg Valley, Stefansborg, Sweden A gentle wind blew through the valley as the two titanic opponents stared each other down in preparation for the greatest battle in modern day. On one side was Ultraman Pole, the latest Ultraman to be Earth’s protector. On the other was Bogara, the monster that had been behind most monster attacks since Pole came to Earth. She considered only Pole, the monster fighting team C.A.T and Ultraman Iron, who helped Pole against her, as enemies. Not anyone else. However, if she succeeded, Earth would be unprotected against the monster attacks, a phenomenon that had been present since 1966. “What is it you have against me so badly…?" Pole said to his opponent. “You have slowed my growth”, she hissed. “I feed upon mature monsters. By doing so, I myself can mature and grow. You and your friends have killed many of my meals, but I managed to collect a number of monsters on Mars. They are not as nutricious, but my powers have grown enough. I want to gain revenge on you for interrupting my life so much. In addition… I will eat you.” “EAT me?” Pole exclaimed. “Why?” “You are much more nutricious than them. With you, I will grow very powerful. After that, I will defeat and eat your friend Ultraman Iron… and then I am prepared.” “Prepared for what?” “I will be prepared for my purpose… the purpose of any living thing. To bring my race further.” “There are MANY of you?" “No. We are always few in a generation… and past generations are often killed by Ultrans or their young. I might be eaten by my own children, but it would bring my race further.” “But how would you do this if there’s only one of you?” “We have a way”, Bogara explained. “We rip off a piece of ourselves and allow it to grow.” As Pole stood confused, Bogara raised her claw hands and added “But enough. We will fight.” C.A.T HQ, Stefansborg, Sweden Max of the British monster fighters D.O.G entered the building. No one there knew he was really Ultraman Iron, who had taken his place when Max was killed by a monster. “Captain Umbridge”, Captain Emelie said. “Welcome to our arena. I admit I am clueless as to why you enter it.” “Yes”, Max said, “I bet you are. I’ll get straight to the point…” he explained about Bogara and said that she had kidnapped both Tanja and Peter to lure the Ultramen out. He also admitted the truth about himself. To prove this, he transformed into a human-sized version of himself. He kept Pole’s identity secret, though. “I can barely believe this…” Casper said. “But it seems true.” “Crazy”, Johan said. “Why would she kidnap our team members to get to Ultraman…? This must mean…” and he and Casper pointed at each other, yelling “AHA!” “No”, Max smiled, “it’s neither of you. Anyway, I came here to ask you to refrain from interfering with the fight.” “Why?” Emelie said. “Our team is in danger here! So is the entire city! I want that monster stopped!” “Me too”, Max said, “but you have no chance against that beast. I will aid Ultraman Pole. You will have to make sure we do not cause too much harm. And you’re my guarantee if she would get a back-up plan.” And saying this, he handed Johan a small box. “What’s this?” Johan asked, and opened it. Inside were three small capsules. “It is a special… weapon”, Max said. “If she summons aid, use one of them. And make sure nobody else is nearby… it might cause severe damage.” “All right”, Emelie said, “we’ll play your game. But I’m holding you responsible to the safety of my team.” “Don’t worry”, Max smiled. “I won’t let anyone die.” Oskarsberg Valley, Stefansborg, Sweden Bogara charged. Pole narrowly avoided her, but she turned around and slammed him with her claw. Pole stumbled, but avoided a second blow, then jumped up and kicked her head. He then gave Bogara a dashing elbow to the chest, and did a back flip to get some breathing room. As he looked up again, he noted that Bogara seemed completely unaffected by his attack. Wasting no time, however, he rushed up again… …And was immediately hit by a purple energy blast from Bogara’s claw. The blast sent Pole flying back into the forest, crashing down onto the ground. “I believed you to be stronger, Ultran”, Bogara hissed. “Or maybe it is only that I have fed myself too much for you.” Bogara hissed loudly, and shot her energy blast again. Pole rolled to the side and narrowly dodged it, then got up again. He now knew Bogara’s power, and it frightened him. He had to fight back with all his strength or he would most surely die… “You’re quite powerful, Ultran”, Bogara said. “I might be too much for you, but I prefer coming to minimal harm.” And with those words, Bogara raised a claw to the sky. As she did so, Pole saw something speed down at an alarming pace. It soon crashed down next to Bogara, and when the smoke cleared Pole saw something terrible… a second monster. It was tall, grey and lizardlike, with very small arms. Its back was covered in small spikes. Upon stepping out of its little crater, it gave out a high-pitched roar. Pole recognized it as Bemular, the first monster to fight an Ultran on Earth. But soon it became clear that Bemular had little interest in attacking Pole. He just walked away… towards central Stefansborg! Pole realized this and rushed after him, but Bogara stepped in his way and slammed him with her tail, putting him down on a knee. “Bemular is not for you, Ultran”, she hissed. “He’s a little distraction for our other friend.” “What do you mean?” Pole said while getting to his feet unhindered by Bogara. Suddenly, Ultraman Iron appeared! He flew past Bemular and landed in front of the two of them. “What…?” Bogara hissed, surprised. “Do you truly ignore the destruction Bemular will cause unhindered?” “I don’t have to worry about him”, Iron said. “He’ll get his anyway.” “Are you putting trust in the humans? They are not powerful enough to stop him from killing tens… maybe hundreds before dying.” “You’ll see. Pole, let’s go!” Pole nodded, and he and Iron assumed a battle stance. Bogara let out a hissing roar and charged them. Iron and Pole sidestepped her, grabbed her arms and threw her to the ground. She got up and suddenly extended her tail until it wrapped around Iron. It then emitted electric shocks, stunning him, but Pole acted immediately, throwing his Polium Blade at the tail, severing it. Bogara screamed in agony, but turned around to face her enemies again. Iron threw the severed tail away and charged Bogara. The two grappled, and Pole ran up and rammed Bogara from the side. In sync with a throw from Iron, it sent Bogara rolling over the few remaining trees. Pole jumped on her, pummelling her back, but a sudden wave of force sent him flying back. He got up again, but his color timer was now blinking. Iron took the advantage while Bogara was getting to her feet and threw a ball of red light at her. It hit her chest, and she stepped back. She soon regained footing and repeatedly fired her energy blast at him. He dodged the first few, but soon began to get hit. It took three shots before he fell. The Ultrans rose and retook their battle stance. They were still in the advantage. West of Stefansborg, Sweden Bemular roared as he approached the city. Some valiant humans tried to draw him away using all sorts of equipment, including flamethrowers, hunting rifles and a fire truck’s hose. Bemular looked down upon the punies. Deciding upon the fire truck, he opened his mouth and exhaled a blue beam of pure heat, engulfing the truck in flames. He then proceeded to step on a house, and looked down to find the next thing to destroy. The C.A.T team, Emelie now with them, arrived in a group-transport vessel, big enough for the entire group but not as fast as the jets. As they disembarked, they gazed upon Bemular. “What weapon could Ultraman have prepared for this creature..?” Johan muttered. “Whatever it is”, Emelie said, “we can’t allow it to fail. Johan, you’ll use the capsule when you get the chance. Casper and I will distract the monster from the air.” Johan nodded. Casper and Emelie went back into the aircraft and immediately flew up in the air again. They circled around Bemular, while Emelie fired a ray gun from the open door, catching Bemular’s attention. The monster circled around, firing its heat beam after them, but the aircraft was too hard to hit. Johan finally got to an open area, pressed the button on the capsule and threw it. What happened then amazed every witness. A big shower of sparks erupted, and when it cleared, a new monster stood there. Like Bemular, it was lizardlike, but much more muscular and covered in what appeared to be stone plates. His spine was lined with spikes. A signal was soon heard through C.A.T’s communication link… “Iwamono ready for battle.” “What’s this? We created a monster?” Casper said, shocked. “I’m more concerned about which side it’s on”, Emelie replied. This soon became clear as Iwamono roared loudly at Bemular. Bemular bellowed, and the fight was on. The two monsters collided, and it was clear that Iwamono was the stronger. Tackling Bemular away, he soon followed up by grabbing and tossing Bemular to the ground. Bemular soon rose and unleashed his heat beam upon Iwamono, but the powerful monster was barely affected. As the two giants fought, the C.A.T aircraft picked Johan up. “Look, Iwamono is too powerful for him!” Johan said triumphantly. “We can’t take chances”, Emelie said. “Man the Specium Cannon.” Johan obeyed, stepping down to a gunner’s compartment on the underside of the aircraft. Harnessing a kind of energy similar to that which Ultramen often used for their attacks, the cannon boasted fantastic power unmatched by anything but the American and Japanese monster attack forces. Iwamono opened his mouth, and his tongue glowed bright blue. A second later, he fired a laser beam from his tongue. The beam hit Bemular in the chest, and pushed him back nearly 50 meters before falling. The monster, clearly wounded, seemed to have trouble rising. But as Iwamono triumphantly approached his foe, he suddenly vanished in a shower of sparks. These sparks flew back to the box with the capsules, now in the C.A.T aircraft. “Iwamono’s gone..?” Johan said. “He must have limited energy, like Ultraman”, Casper concluded. “Now’s our chance! We’re in position… FIRE!” Johan immediately aimed and fired the Specium cannon. The cannon hit Bemular as he was trying to rise, and pierced a hole through the monster’s body. Bemular, emitting a faint roar, fell down dead. “We did it!” Johan said. “We won!” “Fantastic!” Emelie nodded. “If the Ultrans win their fight, Tanja and Peter are saved!” Oskarsberg Valley, Stefansborg, Sweden Bogara screeched, revealing her change in mindset. She was not confident anymore. “Pole! Now!” Iron shouted. Pole nodded and unleashed the Polium Rain. Bogara managed to dodge the beams, but Iron jumped after her and kicked her head from the air. Bogara stumbled, dizzy, and Pole followed up by pummelling her chest. Iron and Pole both relentlessly punched and kicked until they slammed her into the mountainside. Nodding to each other, the Ultrans unleashed their signature beams, Polium Ray and Hexanium Ray. The beams hit Bogara’s stomach, and a gigantic explosion erupted. “Did we get her…?” Pole asked. The answer came as Bogara fell down powerless. She was breathing, but wounded. The monster struggled to get up, and Iron approached her… “Wait… wait…” she hissed. “I surrender. Don’t kill me. I don’t wish to die.” “Why should we give you mercy, monster?” Iron muttered. “You’re not like Goruo. You eat any living thing.” “I’ll leave the planet”, she said. “Whatever you want. Just don’t kill me…” Iron paused for a moment, but put his arms ready to fire the Hexanium Ray again. “Iron, wait”, Pole said. “Let’s spare her.” “Pole…?” Iron said, confused. “She’s defeated anyway. There’s nothing more she can do against us. Plus she did never specifically attack humans.” “Are you sure about this, Pole?” Iron said. “She could try to attack us again.” “By then…” Pole said cheerily, “I’ll be much better.” “All right”, Iron said. “If it’s what you want. Bogara, you’re free to go. Leave the planet now, before I change my mind.” “Yes”, Bogara said. “Thank you, Ultrans.” She rose to her feet, and soon flew up in the sky, disappearing among the clouds. C.A.T HQ, Stefansborg, Sweden “I can’t believe you’re letting him order us around”, Johan muttered to Captain Emelie. “He’s the only way for us to get our teammates back”, she said. “If we do as he says, we’re more likely to get them.” “What a lazy team”, Peter said, suddenly entering with Tanja and Iron. “Peter! Tanja!” they all shouted excitedly. “Where were you?” Casper asked. “Yumsoda”, Tanja muttered. “We were apparently knocked out all the time. I need ice. Lots of it.” Emelie looked to Iron. “What was that monster you gave us?” she asked. “It was a Capsule Monster”, he replied. “Ultraseven of the Ultra Brothers first used them. A capsule with a monster compressed in it for use when the Ultran can not fight himself under whatever conditions apparent. He gave me this new batch to give you as a present.” “For us?” Casper said, surprised. “Yes”, Iron nodded. “Ultraman Pole, still an amateur, is here. Per tradition he helps the humans fight monsters. Ultraseven thought you might find use for these when he’s unable to fight for you.” “I see”, Emelie said. “Thank you, Ultraman. What will you do now?” “I will return to D.O.G. Possibly retire from them and go back into space later. The mission I came here for is over, anyway. Thank you all for your help…” “You’re welcome”, Emelie said. “I’m thankful for your aid in retrieving my team. You’re very welcome to come back anytime.” “I’ll consider it”, Iron smiled. “Farewell.” And a moment later, he vanished into thin air. A few moments passed in silence, until the silence was broken by Johan. “So what’s for dinner?” Bogara stopped over the atmosphere to take one last look at the planet. She couldn’t believe her luck in surviving. The Ultrans were kind, after all. In return, Bogara had left them with a parting gift. She had erased Tanja Oskarsson’s memory of ever learning the identity of Pole’s host. “Beware, planet Earth”, she hissed silently. “I’m not the only one to pay a visit.” Edited by KexMex, Mar 7 2009, 10:05 PM.
