I got something to say: Do we really need to get blu-ray? Isn't blu-ray just a DVD version of that the Beta tape was to VHS?
Obviously investing in a Blu-Ray DVD player and Blu-Ray DVDs is an individual choice. You must also obviously have a 720p or 1080p hi-def TV to fully utilize(and appreciate) the improved image enhancement of Blu-Ray DVDs.

My decision to buy a hi-def TV was based on two things:

1. the weight of flat panels, that is, those in my price range(of affordability), average between 35-50 lbs. My own HD flat panel weighs less than 40 lbs. I have moved from residence to residence in my lifetime with a fair degree of regularity so it's easier to carry a flat panel than a CRT or "tube" TV. Tube TVs that are 27" and larger are quite heavy. I used to own a 36" Magnavox tube TV(curved screen) and a 30" JVC wide screen flat screen: both of these units were monsters, weighing in at 186 lbs and 137 lbs respectively. I sold them both because I got tired of carrying them around from one residence to another.
My second TV is a 27" Sony Trinitron flat screen(a 2005 model) that I kept and weighs about 90 lbs. I can lift it and carry it around but it's a major pain in the ass(and back). I keep it because it was considered one of the best tube TVs on the market when it first came out and because I always keep a second TV in the house.

I plan on buying a second 32" hi-def TV at the end of this year(a discount brand from Brands Mart) so I can say goodbye to my tube TV.

My decision to buy a Blu-Ray DVD player was more curiosity. I have no regrets about buying the Blu-Ray player but it's harder to afford current movie title releases at their full price. Blu-Ray DVDs are sold for $14.99 at Best Buy but they're older films I already have on standard DVD.

I have read that future DVDs will be considerably smaller and will have even more storage space than what's on the market right now.

Until Blu-Ray players are routinely priced at $200 and less, and until Blu-Ray DVD prices come down, I don't see a "migration" of the majority of the public investing in Blu-Ray players and/or discs.
