Latest DVD watched by Packmule: Martyrs(2009), a French horror film directed by Pascal Laugier. I have watched horror movies since I was about fifteen years old and I have never seen such a horror movie that's so grim and utterly depressing yet fascinating to watch at the same time. Martyrs contains graphic violence and gore but both are well placed and plausible within the overall context, and plot, of this relentlessly violent and intense film. This movie, as others who have watched it and reviewed it on the internet have stated, must be "experienced". I didn't like the ending at all but it made sense, like it or not, again given the overall story line of the film. I would recommend that any serious fan of horror movies check out Martyrs...as a rental. It might be hit or miss regardless but I believe any fan of horror movies who watches "Martyrs" won't forget it anytime soon. |
