Believe it or not, Gregg the original ST series never really garnered outstanding TV ratings. It was only after this show went into syndication, and began making the rounds on channels like The Sci-Fi Channel and others, did it gain such an enormous following of fans.
Oh yeah. So I've heard. Mainly it wasn't successful in the beginning because they put it in the wrong time slot. It came on too late in the evening, so kids didn't get to see it. And so it wasn't until the re-runs that the target audience got to see it.

I heard that there was a big fan petition to get the show renewed after season 2, and because of fan's efforts it got a third season. So it seems as though it did have a cult fan base at least.
