On July 24, 1971 the Toho Motion Picture Company released Godzilla Vs Hedorah. This movie was later released in April of 1972, by AIP(American International Pictures), as Godzilla Vs The Smog Monster. The story: an anamorphic alien arrives on Earth via a meteorite and proceeds to consume the various seaborne and airborne pollution along Japan's coast. As it does it increases in size, and gains the ability to shapeshift, from a flying form to that of an upright, walking form. In either form "Hedorah", as it is quickly named, is a true menace, it's trail of sludge and toxic emissions deadly to humans and simultaneously making life miserable for Godzilla. A local scientist comes up with the idea of "drying out" Hedorah, but in order to do this he must first convince the authorities to build two enormous electrodes...------This movie is an uneven ride for me, filled with highs and lows. There can be no question that this film is a different kind of entry in the Showa series of G films. More on my take of this film later. Post your thoughts and critiques of this movie here, and anything related to it, including the fine Region 1 Columbia/Tri-Star DVD. All replies welcome. :) Posted Image
