A year after GMK(2001), in which Godzilla battles traditional adversaries King Ghidorah and Mothra(and veteran Toho kaiju "Baragon") Toho released Godzilla X MechaGodzilla, pitting Godzilla against another old opponent, MechaGodzilla, called Kiryu in this film, and a bio-robot constructed over the skeletal remains of a "previous" Godzilla, it's objective to defend Japan from Godzilla. The plot revolves around Akane Yoshiro, a soldier in the elite anti-Godzilla military unit who, during her unit's battle with Godzilla at the beginning of the film, causes her own armored and MASER-armed vehicle to collide with another vehicle, which flips over into a ravine, where it, and all it's occupants, are crushed by Godzilla's foot. Understandably guilt-ridden over the tragic, and completely accidental incident, Akane Yoshiro is relegated to low-key library duty. She returns to full duty at the request of her fair and loyal C.O. and gets her groove back, eventually, at movie's end, manually piloting Kiryu as it fights Godzilla toe-to-toe in the climactic battle...This movie is my 2nd favorite of the Millenium series(after GMK). I especially like the character Akane Yoshiro, a spirited, determined woman who refuses to let the tragic accident get the best of her. This character is played by gorgeous Yumiko Shaku tongue-1 , a former swimsuit model(what a shocker Mr Green ) turned actress. Post your impressions and critiques of this film here, and anything related, including the Sony Region 1 DVD. All replies welcome. :)
