On May 1st fishermen in Thailand, fishing along the banks of the Mekong River, hauled in a catfish that measured nearly nine feet in length and weighed 646 lbs. Though it's not official the early consensus is that this enormous catfish is, in all probability, a world record for size, regarding freshwater fish. Back to the subject of bears, in particular the North American grizzly, males average 600-800 lbs in weight and a standing height of 6-8'. There are specimens that grow larger. In September of 2005 a U.S. Forestry Ranger in Alaska shot and killed a charging grizzly that is now considered, officially, the largest bear ever recorded. This animal weighed over 1600 lbs and measured 12.5' at the shoulder, on it's hind legs, or 14' at the top of it's head. freak out To give you an idea of this bear's awesome size a man who is 6' tall would look into the navel of this bear if it was standing upright, or into it's eyes if it were on all fours. The link with more info, and pics, of this giant grizzly:

What struck me in particular about pics of this grizzly was the size of it's paw in the photo. freak out

In other bizarre news:

-in Essen, Germany a man was found dead in his bed...seven years after he actually died: The big sleep: deceased man found in bed seven years later

-a house cat managed to survive a trip from China to Hendersonville, NC in a crate, for thirty-five days, and without food or water: Catskills: cat survives odyssey trip in crate
