Which is why, after GMK(2001), this is my favorite Godzilla film made after 1984. For me most of my enjoyment in watching these films comes from the special effects. I admit I have easily taken a liking to many, many films over the years simply because of their special effects, which have been the focus for me watching kaiju and other sci-fi movies. As I have aged things like storyline, character development, and pacing have become things I am acutely more in tune with as I watch (any) movies. Very few Godzilla films have been able to get me attached to a particular character-there have been exceptions, like Tetsuo(Akira Kubo) the inventor in 1965's Godzilla Vs Monster Zero, Dr. Bowen(Nick Adams) from Frankenstein Conquers The World(1965), or Miki Saegusa(Megumi Odaka) from Godzilla Vs Destoroyah(1995). Akane Yoshiro(Yumiko Shaku) demonstrated great humility, resolve, and determination at a time when she could have just as easily sank into self-pity and self-defeat. |
