On December 9, 1995 the Toho Motion Picture Company released Godzilla Vs Destoroyah, aka Godzilla Vs Destroyer. This movie was planned, by Toho, as the final Godzilla film, the 22nd in the series, accompanied by the announcement, seemingly heard around the world, that Godzilla was going to die. The story: scientists, believing they have discovered a new, and unknown life form, have actually discovered a species of prehistoric, crab-like creature that, due to the residual effects of the Oxygen Destroyer in the strata(soil) below Tokyo Bay, quickly grow into human-sized monstrosities, eventually joining together to form a massive, powerful monster, Destroyer. Meanwhile, radiation from subterranean uranium deposits has caused a major growth spurt in Godzilla, Jr, and has also caused Godzilla's reactor-like interior to ramp up, a phenomenon that scientists predict will lead to a large nuclear explosion. The authorities lure Godzilla Jr. into a fight with Destroyer, hoping the battle will attract Godzilla, who can then be destroyed before he explodes. In the ensuing battles Godzilla Jr is killed by Destroyer, Godzilla, in a rage, exacts revenge on Destroyer, G and the Super X3 killing the juggernaut monster. Finally, Godzilla "melts" down, vaporizing. His radioactive mist seems to revitalize Godzilla Jr(that's how I interpreted this scene), as G Jr can be seen in the dissipating mist in mid-roar. -------Observations: this film has, I think, a very serious "feel" about it, and a darker tone. Though I rarely get emotional watching any film I admit being totally pissed off when Godzilla Jr. was killed. I also, like Miki Saegusa(played by the always lovely Megumi Odaka  ), did not like the authorities luring G Jr. into battle with the adolescent(?) form of Destroyer to attract the attention of Godzilla. Kind of despicable, though I do undertand their motivation. Enough rambling. More later. crazy This movie is available on Region 2(from Yesasia.com) and Region 1(Columbia/Tri-Star).
