To be honest there has been little, if any, discussion of politics at this site since I created it back in late January of 2006. I have gotten the impression that the active members of this board are not "drawn" to political discussions, though I could obviously be wrong about that. I considered prohibiting the discussion of politics at Monsterland Forums, but decided against that for two reasons: firstly I didn't want to eliminate a possible source of communication among the members of this board in it's first year, and when I'm trying to grow this site. Secondly, I believe talking about politics can be productive and civil, despite being on the "sidelines" at so many other boards as I watched disasters unfold, political threads turning into name calling and other ugly verbal exchanges.

I haven't been in on as many of these occasions, but I did witness two threads that were closed for this reason. In the first, two posters were talking about America and the government, and one of them ended up calling the other "a ****ing idiot". In the second, the "idiot" told the other poster to "shut up". What's disturbing is that the last example took place in a topic that wasn't centered around anything relative to politics, but a poll on which kaiju the members thought would win in a fight. I think the drift started in one of my posts, where I was joking about the fact that Rodan was going to get revenge for losing in the poll.
