Welcome to MONSTERLAND FORUMS! We are a casual and friendly online community of movie fans who like to talk about giant monsters, horror and sci-fi in cinema, on television and on Blu Ray/DVD. There are forums for sports, casual chat and video games as well. For those of you who like making art, writing stories and creating videos, our community includes a forum for these submissions as well. Check out our main index page and other board forums! Anyone is welcome to join our community!

MONSTERLAND FORUMS was created on January 29, 2006 for the purpose of giving fans of giant monster films and other sci-fi/horror movies a friendly online meeting place to discuss all of their favorite films and other things of interest like video gaming and sports.

MONSTERLAND FORUMS has 180,000 posts. This online community, while over twelve years old, is currently no longer as active as the early years(between 2007-2009). Still, we have a half dozen members who continue to participate here.

For those who enjoy giant monster movies be sure to check out THE MEG, opening in theaters on August 10th, 2018. This film, based on the 1997 book "Meg", written by Steve Alten, features an enormous, 75 foot long Megalodon shark! Other giant monster movies that we fans can look forward to: GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS(in 2019) and GODZILLA VS KONG in 2020! PACIFIC RIM-UPRISING(2018), the sequel to 2013's "Pacific Rim", is about to release to Ultra 4k and Blu Ray. In these movies, 250 foot tall robots defend Earth from an assault of other worldly giant monsters(kaiju).

After having a Kindle for a week now I LOVE it! Amazon has tons of books that are free or for a few dollars. I have about 6 books total and 4 were free the other 2 were $2 each. Its light weight and easy to read on (plus with my eye quality going down I can increase the size of the print. lol )
I've been thinking about getting one of these. I like listening to audio books, and they are capable of supporting them. I've been wanting to get some more, but I wanted some "updated" stuff, other than cassettes. Not that I have a problem with cassettes, but it would be nice to save some space.

The biggest reason for this interest is because I was looking for some Doctor Who stuff, and I found one for the kindle that's read by none other than Matt Smith!

Not a big fan of the big music and film Grammy and Oscar shows, but Kelly Rowland, Beyonce's old pal from Destiny's Child, was looking quite good. wavey

As anyone else noticed how new songs have like 4-5 writers on average for a song that has very little meaning to them or are not very creative? Look at the 60-80's singers; most of them wrote their own songs by themselves or with at most another person?

While enjoying a cigarillo (yes, yes, I know), I was thinking of a couple of things. First, I was thinking about what my lattest FB post was all about. Second, I was thinking about the natural lighting I could have taken advantage of if I was to have been filmming something at the moment. I was thinking of one of the people who best used the kind of light, Terrence Malick. Then I thought, well, if Malick is such a weird, compulsive genius (a guy who writes notes on his arm, which I do also - coincidentally; a guy who during a shot would get off topic and while holding the camera start filming something in the background suddenly just because it interested him, ect.), that he might one one to think of mathematically breaking down at what distance the sun is to a specific location on earth year around, at first thinking of doing such on a miniature scale like I could with the hand held light we use in photography to compliment the four other stationary lights (background, heir, scoop, and key). Then I thought about that claim that at this day and age, film school is not necessary. I thought that while a small minority of self-taught people (who know anywhere from a little to a lot) do not make it, film school graduates often do achieve. And how can a film school like the AFI come up (At relatively the same time) with both David Lynch and Terrence Malick. I thought of interviewing Lynch, asking his impressions of AFI and his impressions on Terrence Malick's work, and vice versa with Malick. Yes, it seems I have come to a circle with Malick, but then I thought of what could be a nice little thing to start the documentary off filming my photography teacher recanting a story of how someone who went to the Art Institute's mother said that the Art Institute gives the exact same thing my photography teacher does - except that my photo teacher does stuff for free.

Not exactly complaining here, but that link that Josh posted is making the screen very wide. I was just wondering if there was any way to change it. It's not a huge issue, but having to scroll back and forth to read is a little taxing.

I have made two(2) edits in this topic which should alleviate the index page "bulge" issue: I removed and re-installed a link and an image posted by joshTX and Napster, respectively.

I am going to post an update about posting oversized images at this board in the "Board announcements and updates" topic. You will want to read it. Just FYI. Mr. Smiles

Uh, what exactly would you like me to say? It sounds like you're simply musing on things you might do when making a short film, correct?

Note: your signature image is 600 pixels wide which is causing the index pages to "bulge" out. I've posted in the "Board announcements" topic about this. I'm going to reqize your sig image to make it 500 pixels wide. Just FYI.

You could say I am bat crap crazy or something :p Maybe what I am saying is illogical, that such ideas for such a documentary is an okay - not good - but okay idea, and that my teacher's anecdote is a reason for me to stay in school.

Does anyone here do some paid online surveys? I'm thinking about doing some for some extra money and I don't have the time to pick up a second job right now plus in my area nobody is hiring.

I'd check out Cash Crate, Tom. I did some for them a couple of years ago. Most of these surveys pay .50 cents up to $2 per survey. The hardest part is getting through all the adverts and pop ups. Real pain in the ass. You have to create an account with Cash Crate. When you reach a mininum of $20 they'll send you a check in the mail. Over a period of about eight months I did surveys which paid me just over $23.

I don't know about other internet online survey websites.

I was wondering about this. I keep getting ads for these on career builder. It seems like a good way to get some pocket change, but it's got that "it might be too good to be true" feeling about it. My sister says that you have to be careful though; that a lot of them are scams and stuff.

Thanks for the e-mail Lee. As I said, I wasn't trying to be difficult; Sometimes you can't really tell if they're going to be that large until you've posted it already. I don't know why that is; it's happened to me before. But I always found it weird that when people post links like that it runs on across the page instead of word-wrapping to the next line. I'm not annoyed with anyone; I just thought maybe there was an option in my preferences to fix that, but I couldn't find it. But it's cleared up now.

I know you weren't but thanks for the sentiment. Mr. Smiles

In the past I've generally permitted the posting of unusually large images in posts but I've sent a bulk email to all the members here and posted an announcement about it in the "board updates and announcements" topic thread.

I encourage all members here to speak up when they have a complaint, suggestion or technical problem of any kind. That's how this and other internet message boards can improve and also when I know about an issue I can do something about it. winky
