Rumors I'm getting really sick of rumors at work. I get back from my lunch and my old boss says to me "Tom did you tell people I have a cocaine problem?" To which I responded no I didn't tell any one that.

God damn this is worse than high school sometimes.

Tom, and I'm sure you realized this long ago: better to limit your conversations about co workers with your co-workers and if possible don't even engage in these conversations at all. Small talk is of course the exception but once you start conversing with co workers about the job you enter into a minefield and something you say can blow up in your face without warning. winky

Got two more emails from Lowes thanking me for my interest in working for them and informing me that they are pursuing other candidates. Given my experience, background, clean background and driving record and also what I've seen at various labor and job internet message boards, Lowes' lack of interest in me is due to my age. I've been to two message boards with dozens of individuals who have applied and been rejected by Lowes: they are all over forty years of age. Some ex employees of Lowes posted at two different message boards that over forty applicants are rejected because of age discrimination.

I don't expect you guys to read all of this because of the length, but it's something I've wanted to get off my chest for a long time.

Last night I rented Wreck-It-Ralph from Amazon Instant Video. I thought it was a fun movie; a good feel-good story with likable characters set in an interesting universe. I loved it, and will soon be buying it on disc. After I watched it, I was just perusing around looking at reviews. I looked at the one-star reviews to see what kind of stuff the haters were saying. I found a scathing review written by a mother trashing the movie; she had looked on some consumer website that said the movie was suitable for her seven-year-old. She then blasted Disney, saying that the humor was too gross and abusive, and that it "sends the wrong messages to our kids," and that the movie was "nothing more than a gimmick to make money at the expense of children." I'll admit, the humor in the movie was a lot of bantering back and forth, and a lot of "potty-humor" as some say. But the movie does have a PG rating; I guess some people just glaze over that.

Here's my thing: I'm not a parent, nor am I anywhere close to being one. But I was raised by some pretty damn good ones, and they were good enough to know what to allow me to see on TV and what not to. They also taught me the difference between what is right and wrong, and the difference between reality and make-believe. Some of the examples she gave were (I apologize for any spoilers) Fix-It-Felix's romantic interest with the rather shapely soldier from another game; she verbally and physically abuses him throughout the whole movie, and in the end they end up falling in love with each other. Another example was Venellope's antagonists; they pick on her and call her names, so she sets out for revenge (to win a race.) In the end, the bad guy gets beat and everything works out for our heroes. To quote this person: "Is this the message we want to send to our kids?" Come on, people. This was nothing more than a fun feel-good story; the good guy saves the day, the nice guy gets the girl. It’s not like Disney is trying to shove some life message that says "everything will work out in the end." Grow up.

My opinion is this: Yes, I believe what is considered acceptable for whatever age group by the media is a little off sometimes. But that should not constitute degrading a fun movie like Wreck It Ralph because the bad guys get beat up, or the main characters constantly pick on each other, or the women in the movie are shapely and completely out of the good guy's league but they fall in love anyway. So what if everything works out? I don't see a huge difference between this and the Toy Story movies, which are praised as some of the best Pixar movies ever made. I get really sick of people railing on movies for reasons like this.

I think parents these days (some, not all) rely way too much on external sources to help shape their children into what kind of person they will be when they grow up. Sure, you have to have school teachers and guidance counselors, but what about when they get home at the end of the day? It seems like that if people can sit their kids down in front of "Dora The Explorer" or some other program of that nature their job is easier. Nope. It takes more than learning programs on TV to help shape a kid's life. If you rely solely on external sources like that, they will see "bad things." Will you be there to teach them right from wrong?

It disgusts me that if anything marketed for kids doesn't have some kind of life message, people write it off as garbage. What's wrong with letting kids have fun? I used to watch Popeye get mad and beat up bad guys. It was a blast. But, because I grew up with two great parents, I knew if I tried that in real life I'd be in deep sh*t. I have no problem with parents using toys or TV programs to help kids learn. But when something like Wreck-It-Ralph comes along, which is nothing more than stupid fun, it's ridiculous that some people feel so betrayed and insulted that they have to bash the movie and everyone involved, along with insulting everyone who enjoyed it. The entertainment industry thrives on marketing, and it doesn't matter at who's expense it comes. That's the world these days. It's the same way for everybody, not just kids. It's more despicable when it applies to kids, but that isn't the point. It isn't going to change.

I spent as much time with my parents growing up as I did with friends. I still do. And thanks to them, I know that I can't kick people's asses and trash property when somebody makes me mad, and I don't always get the girl because I'm a nice guy. It's kind of the opposite in real life. Again, I'm not a parent, so I can't really begin to understand some of the challenges they go through, but I think I understand the basics. Ralph beating up bad guys is make-believe. It's the kid standing behind the schoolhouse smoking a joint that you should really be worried about. That's the bad role-model here, not Ralph.

If I had a blog I'd post this for the world to see, because it's really disheartening sometimes to think about how low some of us have stooped.

Today's (Louisville) weather has been pure AWESOME! It has been around 50-60 degrees today and it is a much better improvement over the last few weeks. I have been having to wear 3 jackets, 2 pairs of pants and now I can wear a t-shirt and a pair of pants. I cannot wait till we get 90s and 100s degree days.

Thanks. I don't know how to do it though.

And if your comments section was open, I wouldn't want it put up, because it is kind of an inflammatory remark as a whole, and I'd hate to have your message box fill up with angry mothers asking "why did you post that sh*t?"

The "comments" feature of my Google blog is disabled and has been for several years. Why? Spam content and the occasional profanity laced remarks like "you f*cking suck!" and similar silly remarks from people who have too much time on their hands. For some time I contemplated that the reason people would post such content was simply to amuse themselves or perhaps it was their way of maintaining their own sense of purpose and/or self importance. Now, I just think people post these comments because they're idiots. winky

I have often asked myself why, at my age and after all these years, I still feel considerable disdain for police officers. The below article confirms my reason:

http://www.cbsatlanta.com/story/21594001/homeless-man-ticketed-for-rummaging-through-garbage-can

A badge and a gun = way too much power and authority in the hands of a person who may or may not possess common sense and good judgment.

Work has been very depressing lately. In the last 2 months we have lost 4 goats. It was bound to happen because of their ages, but Im tired of deaths in my animal area. Yesterday (friday) we put Vanilli down. This death really hit me hard because she was my buddy and one of my favorites. We were short staffed today and so were the vets and I had to help with the euthanizeing. Working with animals is a great thing but you do get too attached to them. Part of the job is to make the lives of your animals better and the other part is to interacting with them and getting to know them. The hardest part of the job is bonding with your animals and then they get older on you and they end up passing on you. You make friends withyour animals and after a while you consider them to be yours and they become apart of you. 0

There are n more sick goats right now so hopefully it will stay like that for a little while.

Try and take some consolation in knowing that you are in fact doing exactly that with the animals you work with. I know it probably isn't much consolation immediately after the death of an animal you've become close to Shawn but you and your zoo co workers absolutely make a difference in the lives of these animals. winky

Age is the main factor. The goats that have died were 14 and 15 years old. That is very old for a goat. The average age is around 13. Vanilli just turned 15 and he was very arthritic and had a hard time walking and it was discovered that she has an ulcer in her liver & we was not eating too well for the last week. She was not doing well and it would be unfair to her if we kept her in that state for our own selfish desires. The vets wanted to operate on her and I voiced my honest opinion about her health. I said that it would be unfair to her and she wouldn't make the recover and a bunch more. Me and the person I was with persuaded them to euthanize her for her own benefit. It was expected, but I blocked it out that she wont get better until today. I masked my thoughts for so long that I just came to the realization about her health.

We have 4 more "ancient" goats left. One is 16; two are 15; and one is 14. After being with the animal department I have witnessed 8 "old" goats die, 1 pregnant goat and her 4 babies dies and one of our other mom's 2 babies die.

Lately I've been expierencing memory loss more frequently. Pretty much for the past year my memory has gone to hell; I'm noticing with primarily short term memory and a bit of long term for example last night I was talking with a co-worker about the diet I did a few years ago and couldn't remember the term carbohydrate for a good minute or so.

I have a feeling that it has to due with stress because ever since starting at Wal-mart my stress levels get higher than normal. Also due to that job I'm noticing a lot of what I think are minor health problems, I feel nauseted more than normal the last time I felt this nauseted all the time was in 5th grade when I first developed my anxiety disorder and I missed a lot of school. My left knee has been bugging me a lot, my lower back which has been a pretty constant in my life for about 10 years now, my left shoulder some times acts up, and finally my ankle has been hurting to most likely due to a sprang.

I can't blame the entireity of these problems on my job I'm not that young any more but I'm also not that old where I should be having the problems I'm having no offense to the older members of the board.

From what I have been able to discover through research, Tom stress and poor diet can result in joint pain, joint inflammation, insomnia, bowel distress, short term memory loss in conjunction with an inability to concentrate and a general feeling of misery. I can attest to all of this from personal experience. winky

Correct me if I'm wrong but you're 31 years old, right?

I started noticing hair recession and mild joint discomfort in my early thirties. The other things like arthritis and decreased stamina are things you'll notice when you turn forty. I'd suggest going to a doctor for a check up if anything specific you've mentioned gets any worse.

Thanks for the info Lee I figured it was stress related. On a side note for me poor diet and stress go hand in hand, when I'm under a lot of stress I tend to eat foods that aren't the best for you.

I turned 30 back in December; I'll be 31 later (keyword later :P) this year

Just a completely random question here:

I've been looking around for some desktop wallpaper featuring my favorite superheroes. I've found several good ones, but one that I'm looking for that I'm having a lot of trouble with is Ms. Marvel. She's one of my faves.

The problem I'm having is that the vast majority of pics I find featuring her places heavy emphasis on her sexuality; i.e. pics that have her with humongous breasts, or her ass hanging out of her suit. Don't get me wrong; comic book gals can be sexy, but this is going on a desktop. I don't need a softcore porn pic of a fictional character on my living room computer. I want a pic of her beating the crap out of somebody, or charging up her energy or something.

I can't even find pics of her new look (which I'm not a huge fan of, but I'd take it over what I've found so far). I know it's a stretch, but I was just wondering if anybody knew a good place to look for a good pic of her.

I have a reason for that good friggin god.

A new plague of vileness has been spread over facebook. Someone is posting videos of child pornography evidently. Some said it was a scene from the 2012 film A SERBIAN FILM (in which it comes dangerously close, but is legal - just last year's "Human Centipede"). No, it wasn't a scene from A SERBIAN FILM at all. Cringe hard enough to give you a spasm. Doing all I can do, I made sure the video was reported. And hope something happens. Something.

Times like this could make one question the existence of God if you are religious. Times like this could make one wish there was one if you are not religious.

I just wonder why. I am myself religious... how do you make it up to the victim if you are God? The purpetrator will probably burn in hell. But in the meantime, the young life will spend the rest of their time on earth with psychological damage. If the victim (or survivor, like an abused person I know likes to think of herself as) lives the rest of their natural life in that hell, how do you make up for all that lost time, all that damage that accompanied it?

This upsets me. The existance of such evil, and the questions it proposes.

It isn't just that it is a video of one of the worst things

I'm sick yet again most likely due to stress. The other day I got sick early in the morning I believe from a slight case of food poisoning or there was a flu going around so I spent all day Tuesday nausted, even throwing up in the morning about 5am. When I got sick my sinuses where draining pretty heavy.

Yesterday I woke up with a scratchy throat, then today when I woke up that turned into a sore throat and my sinuses have been draining pretty heavy.

Stress and the weather don't help, it got cold again recently after having a week in the high 40s low 50s. If I'm not feeling well by Monday I'm going to go to the doctors and see whats going on.

Are you suggesting that people may question their religious faith simply over someone posting child porn on Facebook? huh?

Times like this could make one wish there was one if you are not religious
Times like this might also make a person who is not spiritual remain that way, taking comfort in their privacy and a firearm in case of intruders in their residence. winky sickko

Why what? Why did someone post child porn at Facebook? Seems clear to me they either did it because they're deviants or out of some morbid curiosity to see what would happen after they did.

G2KMaster

I am myself religious... how do you make it up to the victim if you are God?
You really think that God, assuming there is a God, is about making amends to victims of crime and other misfortunes in life here? heyo

Respectfully, and pardon the language, but those people in life you refer to as "victims", people who have suffered a misfortune and/or injustice in life(one or more), can either suck it the fuck up and keep moving forward in life with their OWN life or simply bog down in self pity and wallow in that. I'm not trying to sound insensitive here. We all know bad things happen to good people and it happens EVERY DAY. What you do Evan is focus on your own life and everything in it and about it that you can control and influence. That's what you do. That's what everyone should do. It's either that or give up. If there is a God I want the almighty to know that I never stopped trying to make the most of myself right up to my last breath.

G2KMaster

This upsets me. The existance of such evil, and the questions it proposes
What should really bother you, Evan isn't evil: it's why so many people in this world do nothing about "evil" when they have the opportunity to take action to stop "evil" in its tracks.
