Welcome to MONSTERLAND FORUMS! We are a casual and friendly online community of movie fans who like to talk about giant monsters, horror and sci-fi in cinema, on television and on Blu Ray/DVD. There are forums for sports, casual chat and video games as well. For those of you who like making art, writing stories and creating videos, our community includes a forum for these submissions as well. Check out our main index page and other board forums! Anyone is welcome to join our community!

MONSTERLAND FORUMS was created on January 29, 2006 for the purpose of giving fans of giant monster films and other sci-fi/horror movies a friendly online meeting place to discuss all of their favorite films and other things of interest like video gaming and sports.

MONSTERLAND FORUMS has 180,000 posts. This online community, while over twelve years old, is currently no longer as active as the early years(between 2007-2009). Still, we have a half dozen members who continue to participate here.

For those who enjoy giant monster movies be sure to check out THE MEG, opening in theaters on August 10th, 2018. This film, based on the 1997 book "Meg", written by Steve Alten, features an enormous, 75 foot long Megalodon shark! Other giant monster movies that we fans can look forward to: GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS(in 2019) and GODZILLA VS KONG in 2020! PACIFIC RIM-UPRISING(2018), the sequel to 2013's "Pacific Rim", is about to release to Ultra 4k and Blu Ray. In these movies, 250 foot tall robots defend Earth from an assault of other worldly giant monsters(kaiju).

It is. Is there some rule against movie gifs? huh?

I tried to find one that included Louis's reaction, but sadly couldn't find any.

From what I remember, there's no rules against them and I watched the movie a very long time ago, so the scene look familiar to me. winky

Since we're on about Movie GIF's, here's one I made a few hours ago:

There is no rule here prohibiting animated gifs but the widths of these images should not exceed 500 pixels in width. If an image does it will cause the boards pages in the respective topic to deform and "bulge" out. winky

So, today I had to work and train with a new worker and it was, well, interesting. This girl in 16 and is co-op-ing from school and working in my area for he next 5 months. I was called "old" for the first time ever. I figured I'd get to know this person because Ill be stuck with her the entire time (she works on my days and off when I am off). Normally I go from building to building and I have the radios set to a classic rock station. She had no clue to who was who and she has never heard of any song. She has never heard of "Have you Ever Seen the Rain", "Summer of 69" or even "Life in the Fast Line", just to name a few, so that was rather unusual. I had her change the station and I had no clue who these young singers are or the songs. The age difference isn't that much of a difference in theory, but I work with people from the ages 30's to mid 50's on a regular basis. boredd

So, being called "old" was very strange. On top of this I had to teach this 16 year old how to use a broom, squeegee, and how to wash dishes. I have never met a person like this . . . . I thought it was pretty self explanatory of how to use a broom and do dishes, you sweep away and you get a sponge an scrub . . . Nono

This shall be a long experience.

If you think it's bad now wait until you're over forty years of age. Every teenager, every twenty and even thirty something is a potential candidate to use the word "old" to describe you. Once you've reached fifty years you won't hear that word as much from younger people...because the majority of them will be ignoring you altogether. winky loco2

Shawn, as a kid and teenager I was raised by my adoptive parents to be especially courteous and respectful of older people and "seniors", a word I commonly use when referencing elderly people(which I consider those 75 years of age and older). My adoptive parents tried to instill in me a belief that older people could be a source of wisdom, experience and dearth of additional knowledge and both intellectual and emotional resources from which I could draw upon when and where I spent time with them(seniors and older people in general). I was also taught that older people deserve that respect because they've been around longer and likely endured more things in life, both good and bad. To that end I've tried and mostly succeeded in conducting myself this way around seniors and those older than me...but that way of thinking is IMO on the decline in America.

Seniors and older people(middle aged) are often looked upon with indifference, disdain and outright hostility by younger people who view them as being antiquated, outdated and serving no use anymore in society. This attitude saddens me and also at the same time pisses me off. winky

Forgive me for asking but how does a teenager of reasonable intelligence not comprehend how to use a mop? Or how to wash dishes? Assuming the mop is in good working order and that the person has access to a sink, water and soap, I don't get it. loco2 huh?

I would agree with this statement because I was raised the same way. I love being around the elderly because they are full of experience (like you said good and bad). I enjoy hearing their stories of their past and just the past in general. Without that information being passed along people would forget what it was like living an another time. I hate to say it but the people who are mean and sometimes cruel to the elderly SHOULD be upset at how the acted when they were young. Everyone ages and they may regret acting that way when they are in the shoes of who they mocked or was mean to.

I love when I get to interact with the elderly that visit my areas when I'm teaching because they maybe learning something they haven never known. I recently got a letter from an elderly man who always visited me at the zoo. He just recently passed away and this man loved seeing me and hearing what I had to say and interacting with him without thinking about his age. I will not throw this letter away because it means so much to me.

Like you said in your previous post saying that is a decline in America, I agree with this. Most counties and ethnicities praise the elderly and it is a sad situation when that part of our culture is being left behind in the dust. Its a pure shame. Nono

I haven't had the pleasure of being called "old" yet. Well, except from my friends that are my age just joking around. Except once: My old girlfriend's Aunt sits with me/us at the racetrack on Saturdays, and we used to babysit her kids, and the youngest one called me old, but it was just a joke so it didn't bother me. I doubt it would bother me much anyway.

Tomorrow I will be applying for the head keeper position in my department. This head person will be the go-to person for the vets and supervisor(s) as well as training new employees and assigning training positions for employees. At first I wasn't going to apply but I was convinced to do so by my fellow workers. I have been around in this area for 2.5 years now and I have seen people come and go and SOME people have really managed to screw up the area. 5 people I work with now think that I would do a great job at being a "mini-supervisor" because "I am fair and that I am there for the greater good of the animals and people". If I get the position I will make more money and I would hope to restore the area to what it was when I started.

The only bad part about having the head keeper position is that I wont be able to spend as much time as I do now with the birds. I think that I could manage to get used to this. Plus it would look nice on my resume if I were to become a head person.

Wish me luck zat

So, working at the theater has its benefits. Whenever there's a major franchise movie coming out, you can count on seeing audience members coming to midnight openings in appropriate costumes. I've seen guys and gals dress up as dwarves, elves, and wizards for The Hobbit, and there were so many Deadites for the Evil Dead remake...

I can't wait for Man of Steel's opening night, just to see how many people come dressed up like some version of Superman. I'd love to see a line of guys dressed in the iconic suit, and then one guy off to the side standing there in a Red Son outfit. Just to see how everyone else reacts...

Wasn't sure where else to post this so I decided to put it here. If a mod or admin wants to move it someplace else by all means feel free.

Anyways...

A very talented group of practical effects designers who worked on classic films like Star Wars, Ghostbusters, Poltergeist 2, Star Trek the motion picture, Aliens, The Abyss, Battle Beyond The Stars, Galaxy Of Terror, Forbidden World, Tremors, Darkman, Terminator 2 and Escape From New York just to name a few, are endeavoring to make their own all practical effects monster film inspired by the likes of John Carpenter's The Thing.

As such they are trying to raise $350,000 dollars for the project that they will then pool with their own finances to create the film.

This task is being spearheaded by special effects and makeup man Alec Gillis, who has worked on allot of the films already listed above as well as films like Cocoon, the 1980s remake of Invaders From Mars, The Monster Squad, Alien Nation and Leviathan. His more recent work includes films like X-men First Class, X-men Origins Wolverine, the alien vs predator films, Skyline and the 2011 Thing prequel.

The film they are trying to make is called Harbinger Down.

What is Harbinger Down?

From the website...

In the spirit of sci-fi/horror classics, Alien and The Thing, Harbinger Down is a tense, claustrophobic full-length creature film that will feature only practical Animatronic and Makeup Effects.

If you're a fan of the art of Animatronics and Makeup FX, you know that this technique is overlooked by the big studios. I'm hoping that you will help us change that by supporting this labor of love. I will write and direct and ADI co-founder Tom Woodruff, Jr. will produce.

Our company, Amalgamated Dynamics, will create the kind of Oscar caliber Creature Effects for which we are known.

The story...

A group of grad students have booked passage on the fishing trawler Harbinger to study the effects of global warming on a pod of Orcas in the Bering Sea. When the ship's crew dredges up a recently thawed piece of old Soviet space wreckage, things get downright deadly. It seems that the Russians experimented with tardigrades, tiny resilient animals able to withstand the extremes of space radiation. The creatures survived, but not without mutation.

Now the crew is exposed to aggressively mutating organisms. And after being locked in ice for 3 decades, the creatures aren't about to give up the warmth of human companionship
.

You can pledge as a little as $1 dollar or more if you so choose, and there are also free gifts to be given out to those who pledge $10 dollars or higher. And the more you pledge you more free swag you get and the more lavish the gifts. At the website that I have linked below on the right-hand side of the screen it lists all of the various pledge sizes and what you get for each one.

For more info and how to pledge, go here.

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1117671683/harbinger-down-a-practical-creature-fx-film

And please watch the vid at the top of the page to get a real idea of what they are trying to do.

They are trying to raise the needed funds within a 30 day period with a deadline.

I'm currently in the middle of trying to save back some cash for G-FEST, but my plan is to donate something before their deadline expires.

Now I know that with the economy being what it is, this is a Hell of a thing to ask. But if nothing else hopefully the forum members here will find the link I have posted fun and informative even if no one decides to pledge.

Enjoy and thanks for your time. :)
