Wish me luck! I sent an email to the Bird Department Curator expressing interest on helping out while an employee is maternity leave. I have always wanted to work with birds, so you never know what he may decide to do. I have "casually" expressed interest in his department, but this is the first time I have had done it directly.

Well some good news finally my anxiety seems to have died down to normal levels well normal for me. I was at my friend's last night and he made a comment saying I didn't seem like I was on edge as much as I have been over the past week.

Going to turn in my paperwork for the doctors tomorrow and then hopefully get a doctor soon. I also think if I can I'm going to get one of the $30 medical insurance plans instead of my current health savings account plan. Something tells me I'm going to be needing it soon.

While on Facebook a little while ago I reported a post by another FB account for the first time.

The reaction to the George Zimmerman trial verdict(he was acquitted a little while ago) has generated some predictably heated replies and exchanges on various internet message boards including Yahoo(especially Yahoo).

From FB account "Lizzy Claiborne", responding to the Zimmerman verdict trial:

Quote:

Fucking crackers in Florida. Can't wait to see what was on the jury

There are some who may feel the word "cracker" isn't a racial epithet. They would be wrong. It is and has been for a long, long time, the word a derogatory reference to Caucasians.

"Lizzy Claiborne"'s FB post would seem to suggest that the jury somehow acquitted George Zimmerman because of race, that is because they were predominantly white. They weren't. Five of the six female jurors(an all female jury) were BLACK.

Personally I feel George Zimmerman bears most(if not all) of the responsibility for the circumstances that resulted in his tragic encounter with young Trayvon Martin. Zimmerman, a neighborhood "watch captain" in his subdivision(and armed with a pistol), told 911 dispatchers he was following Trayvon Martin. The dispatchers told him not to. At that point if Zimmerman had simply heeded their instructions by backing off none of what later transpired between the two would have happened and young Trayvon Martin would be alive today.

Hopefully those who stand watch in their neighborhoods, and I absolutely have no problems with neighborhoods working to help the police make themselves safer, will learn from this tragedy that taking the law into their hands may have a positive outcome from time to time...but in most cases will not. It's better to call 911 when any kind of suspicious activity is witnessed and let the police handle it. Was Trayvon Martin's activity suspicious? Obviously George Zimmerman thought so. From what I've read in following this tragedy and the subsequent trial Trayvon Martin was simply walking home and was profiled. At the worst a police officer might have arrived, questioned young Martin and allowed him to pass without further incident. Instead, George Zimmerman pushed the issue despite being told not to, prompting a physical struggle between himself and Trayvon Martin which resulted in Zimmerman shooting Martin at point blank range with his pistol. sadlyicon

Well, on June 7th, I fell off of a ladder and broke my ankle and part of my tibula and fibula. I am off of work for six months and cannot put any weight on my leg until around the second week of September. Talk about someone's summer being over before it even began.

For the first time in almost two years I had to call in sick to work today. I woke up and vomitted and was incredibly shaky I was also running a fever. Later in the day after taking a nap I woke up and had chills.

I know this isn't part of my anxiety disorder. So tomorrow if I feel this way I'm going to go to the doctors.

So I was on Amazon looking at book reviews planning for a new read when I'm done with my current 2 books. I ending up looking up reviews about the books I have read. My favorite book is "Of Mice and Men" and people said that the book's language and time setting "wasn't/didn't seem modern to read". My only comment to that was: "THE BOOK WAS MADE IN THE 1930's! Of course a book published in that time isn't modern." This comment reminded me how unnecessary the censorship of books are . . . I don't know if anyone remembers when the government decided to censor old books like Tom Sawyer or Huckleberry Finn. People need to lighten up on literature because books were to be placed in a certain time or they were based off the time it was . . .

Shawn, it will only get worse here in the U.S. as government(at all levels), schools, companies and other businesses/organizations strive to avoid offending ANYBODY out of fear of potential legal liability. This fear of legal liability and a growing(and for me nauseating) atmosphere of political correctness, both of which have in effect replaced common sense and the expectation that people are capable of exercising good judgment, is just one of the many reasons why I personally believe the United States Of America is in a slow, likely irreversible decline. I agree with the irreversible decline; the world is not a perfect place and things happen that one wishes to regret, but EVERYBODY learns from their mistake. With few kids learning this nobody will come to expect that the world is a hateful and cruel place and they cannot handle the truth. Nono

I wish that was true, Shawn but I have to disagree: not everyone learns from their mistakes. It's not realistic IMO to expect that any and everyone would anyway. winky

I advise people nowadays to focus only on what they can control, specifically themselves and their own lives. noddy

Whelp, I am now the head person in my area with the 2 people above me taking a vacation . . . 1st day as head person and the area took a shit on me . . . First a lady hit her head after falling out of her wheelchair (still have no clue how), an animal has a skin infection and will have to be isolated. This wouldn't be so bad it it wasn't for having no extra space. Our sister-area's boss said I can work extremely well under pressure (which I think is a good thing). Now lets see how tomorrow plays out!

Welcome to the world of supervisory employment. I can tell you without hesitation that it's totally different than simply being responsible for your own work.

It can be more stressful. Successful managers and supervisors do these things well:

1. delegate tasks to those assigned to work for them AND hold those with these tasks accountable

2. lead by example: want your employees to work hard? You have to do this yourself first

3. maintain an open line of communication with those working under their supervision - make sure your employees know you are approachable, a good listener, open minded and fair

4. be customer service oriented - too many managers IMO get caught up in paperwork, inventory control and other administrative duties related to their job and too often get too detached from actually working with and for the customer.

5. allow that you will make mistakes and actually strive to learn from them

You'll be fine, Shawn as long as you're adhering to what I posted above or something similar to it. thumbz up

There is a major part of this that I agree with. Though, for the life of me I can't put my finger on the exact cause.

I fail to understand the obsession nowadays with "political correctness," and the fact that a lot of people are offended by basically everything.

Prime example: I am a smoker. While I agree that it is a disgusting habit and isn't pleasant in most settings (restaurants, places of business, etc.), I feel that people have become unnecessarily intolerant of it, to the point that some people have plain and utter contempt for anybody that smokes. It shouldn't be promoted or praised, but the picture the media paints of smokers as horrible, disgusting humans is ridiculous, and not unlike the discrimination of blacks in the sixties (nowhere that extreme, but in the same vein).

I don't believe it is irreversible, but it isn't far from it. In a society that frowns upon average people living on the edge and doing other normal things, but glorifies large corporations raping customers and athletes being paid ridiculous amounts of money to act like spoiled brats in front of the entire country, it isn't hard to lose hope.
