Still, we have a half dozen members who continue to participate here. For those who enjoy giant monster movies be sure to check out THE MEG, opening in theaters on August 10th, 2018. This film, based on the 1997 book "Meg", written by Steve Alten, features an enormous, 75 foot long Megalodon shark! Other giant monster movies that we fans can look forward to: GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS(in 2019) and GODZILLA VS KONG in 2020! PACIFIC RIM-UPRISING(2018), the sequel to 2013's "Pacific Rim", is about to release to Ultra 4k and Blu Ray. In these movies, 250 foot tall robots defend Earth from an assault of other worldly giant monsters(kaiju). -Lee "Packmule" Merritt site founder |

I can remember my father installing the first cable box on our family TV back in 1980(or thereabouts). Cable has certainly come a long way in the last 20 years. What are your favorite cable channels? List your top three. Mine: 1. ESPN 2. The Discovery Channel 3. The History Channel (honorable mention: Spike TV) |

I really hate people who pick on me. Everyday after i get of the bus from school I always get picked on by a certain guy, even when I tell him to stop, he still pesters me. It snowed recently...so guess what he does today? Yeah he throws snow at me. But, no.... not just him, even two of my friends, I tell them to stop, they don't, and my friend says "what do you think snow is for?" Then that stupid guy throws snow at my neck and it slides down my back. Yeah. I needed to get that off my chest... I just don't understand how people, especially "friends", can act so immature, especially when they attend high school for christ's sake! (Oh and I really hate the cold...) |

The person hurling snowballs at you probably needs this activity in order to boost and/or maintain his own feeling of self-importance. There are other reasons. Since I don't know him I refrain from further comment about snowball-thrower. Good luck with this pest. :) |

If this is the station which shows all the old Hanna-Barbera cartoons, indeed, this one is a classic(and, considering the overall state of cartoons today, much needed )...

If he's not too much bigger than you you should really consider just kicking his ass. That usually does the trick. Always worked for me when I had a bully or some smartass bothering me. Even if you don't win the fight at least you standing up to him will make him respect you. Good luck on the summons, Pack! |

I have really enjoyed, TCM, but do wish they showed a little more love to classic sci-fi/horror films. Late-night Fridays or Saturday afternoons would be a wonderful time to air those kind of films, as I grew up enjoying those type films when staying with family or friends on those days. |

I give TCM credit for opening me up to dramatic films and epics, which I had generally ignored for many, many years, living off a steady diet of science-fiction and horror movies. As a result of watching these movies on TCM I now have the following on DVD: The Apartment(1960), Ice Station Zebra(1968),The Naked Jungle(1953), 2001-A Space Odyssey(1968), Doctor Zhivago(1965), Ben Hur(1959), and It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World(1963). All of these movies have stood the test of time and are,I think, absolutely marvelous films. :D |

Habits, we all have them, good and bad. And some that might be considered unusual. What are yours? Discuss here. All replies welcome.---I'll start with mine: 1. I crack my neck frequently, though I have no idea why, and some info on the internet says it can be unhealthy, done over an extended period of time...whoops 2. I always put on my left shoe first when getting dressed in the morning-another mysteroius habit 3. some things I say all the time, though no idea why: Katie bar the door, It is what it is, Everything's copacetic  |

Good, I'm not alone on this one. ;) Also: -Nail biter. Can't stop. Must...bite...them... -Not only do I bite my nails, but some times I nibble at the skin right around them on the tips of my fingers, esp. when they're wet. Guess my alter ego is a cannibal. |

If we're talking annoying habits, has everyone got a week to hear mine? ;) 01) I seem to have an ear fetish. I love pulling, twisting and smacking ears...by smacking, I mean just enough of a light smack for the sound it makes when the ear cracks against the skull. I have had this ear thing as long as I can recall and it doesn't take long for me to know someone before they are on the receiving end of a gentle twist or tug! 02) I crack my fingers, wrist, knees, hips and occasionally my back and my response to people that have to say, 'Ewwwww!'...if I don't, the joints ache something terrible. 03) I make up little songs and sing my heart out to them. Now, I don't mean I sing nice little songs, just anything that pops into my head can suddenly become a one-time only song. 04) My roommate tells me I'm too anal about things. Silverware must be placed in the dish drainer a certain way, clothes have to be folded a certain way, remotes are to be kept in a certain order, when I place a DVD or CD back in it's case, it must be facing the correct way so the title can be read....meaning it has to be perfectly centered on the spindle. All dishes must be done before I go to bed, if I take my shoes or slippers off and they aren't sitting straight or one is overlapping over the other, I have to set them in a neat order....is this scaring anyone yet? 05) I also make up my own way of saying every day words and that can annoy some people. Peebo and jeddy sammiches is one that seems to really gripe people or peebo and graple jeddy sammiches. As for sayings, I say, Cool Beans and You're almost like my coop dee gratche<---one of my own ways of saying things! I have a ton more, weird habits and quotes/sayings, but before I freak anyone out with my strangeness, I'll end, here. :) |

Other weird habits of Packmule: 1. I have this obsession with keeping my bed perfectly made, hospital corners and all. This habit was borne, without a doubt, from attending a military college(The Citadel in Charleston,SC) where room inspections were almost a daily occurence. You'd think more than 22 years later, living alone, with no room inspectors I'd ease up a bit about keeping the bed looking like a brick before I go to work...hasn't happened  . Another weird one: everyday during lunch I read...usually the newspaper, but if no paper I scramble around in the(company) truck for a magazine or something...I have this urge to read while eating. It's so engrained that I once opened up a road map to look over while eating, and if there had been no map there would have been no lunch for Packmule that day crazy ... |

Talk about your current occupation. If you are a student, talk about what you are studying in high school, or college. Students feel free to talk about your PT jobs and what you are interested in doing long term. For those who are veterans of the work force, or have recently entered, talk about your job, and whether it is something you want to make a career, ...or not. -----Thread starter: I am currently employed as a landscape foreman for a small, privately owned landscape company, one of the oldest in Atlanta, GA. -My work runs the gamut, from the installation of trees and shrubs, large and small, to drainage, erosion control, enhancements(putting out pine straw and various types of bark and mulch)-sometimes even a touch of "hardscaping", which is primarily the placement of steppingstones, the construction of small retaining walls(tie, brick, or natural stones) and ponds. I also am a licensed pesticide applicator, and I do spray trees and shrubs, on a regular basis, with insecticides. I have been in the "Green" industry for over 11 years now. Not really a career for me, just work. I will stay with it until I am in my mid fifties, then work 'til retirement for Lowe's or Home Depot, hopefully as a department manager. :) |

That's a good career packmule. I hope to own a petstore when I get older. I've taken care of pets for a very long time and all the pets I've had were different kinds, cats, snakes, dogs etc. I'm tired of people working at petstores just because they want a job. I'm also tired of asking someone a question at a petstore and they give you the answer "Beats me..." I want to own a petstore that will answer all your questions. Which I would do if I had one. :D |

I'm no longer able to work because of health problems, but for almost 15 years I worked in a beef processing plant in the 'grinding' department. I worked second shift most of those 15 years and worked my way up from floor positions as a 'packer', 'scaler', 'reworker' and in the boxroom to a 'grinder' and finally the 'formulator'/'blender'. When I first started at the plant, the grinding department was more of a seasonal department and second shift would often slow way down in the Spring and Summer and be very busy in Fall and winter, but after just a few years of seasonal work, it really picked up and I found myself working 12+ hours a day, seven days a week. Near the end of my working days, I was moved from the cold temps (in an effort to keep me healthier)...the grinding room was the coldest in the plant other than the freezers, because we were working with the beef once it had been slaughtered and boned out, so temps were usually 30ºF or less with huge fans blowing, constantly. I was moved into our department office where I did the grinding department's daily paperwork...keeping track of meat that was ground and products that was produced on a daily basis.....I loved my job, actually, both working in the department and later, in the office. I also worked as a Postmaster leave replacement and delivered mail on a rural route for extra money, but eventually, when the work at the processing plant became less seasonal, I gave up the mail delivery and replacement work. I know a lot of people are horrified when I tell them what I did and I have actually gotten to be friends with people online that based on what I did for a living, considered not getting to know me any better, assuming I wasn't intelligent if I did a job like that. All I can say is, I busted behind for most of those 15 years, often performaning jobs in the department that no woman had ever done before and I was always very proud of the work I did and felt anyone working in any department of the plant earned every penny and then some! I know I made some wonderful friends while working at the plant and actually miss my job. After working from the time I graduated high school until late '98, trying to adjust to no longer being able to work and having to adjust to living on Social Security disability benefits after 60-80 hour checks has been a huge shock to me. |
