I did not receive it on Saturday. According to Ron Adams, he was going to re-ship it Thursday before noon, Priority Mail, which would make the shipping days Thurs, Fri, and Sat inclusive. Since it did not arrive Saturday then the earliest it COULD arrive would be Monday, shipping day FOUR. The USPS advertises Priority Mail @ $4.05(for domestic shipping), in 2-3 days. The last five(5) parcels I have ordered online paying for Priority Mail shipping have all arrived with postmarks on their packages that make the arrival date equal to 4 or 5 days shipping. When I call USPS to complain I get the same response: "The 2-3 day shipping on our advertisements for Priority Mail are not a guarantee, just an estimate." IMO if you have advertise 2-3 day shipping you had damn well better deliver what you advertise. The USPS doesn't, not in general. thumbs down |

I hate that, too. It's funny, I used to eBay a lot, both purchase and sell and I had so many purchasers tell me they received their packages from me faster than anyone else and I always use USPS Priority. Now, when I am awaiting a package, it almost always seems to take the absolute maximum amount of time to get to me and then some. Perhaps it's because I live in such a small, rural area, that our local Post Offices don't have a huge amount of packages and mail to be 'bothered' with and so packages and mail are dealt with quickly and as they should be. I sometimes wonder if larger offices don't toss a package to be shipped into a cart and it may sit there a day before it's actually sent off? That's just something I wonder about, because if I can ship something using Priority mailing and it can get to most any destination in the U.S. in three days, always and in some instances two days, why doesn't that happen all the time and for every shipment? |

Because of the variation, I think, in the quality of USPS employees handling your various orders. Some of them work hard, move with a spring in their step, take pride in their work, and realize that, for the high hourly rate they make, they have an obligation to work as efficiently as possible. Then you have the opposite of what I just described: slow, unmotivated and unprofessional types who put in the bare minimum effort. Don't believe me? I used to do landscaping work on weekends for an ex-Postal letter carrier. She once told me that USPS workers are either really good or really lousy. She was a carrier and a letter sorter(machine operator) with the USPS for nearly 20 years. eyebrow |

I don't understand that. I'm not in any way, shape or form saying I was a perfect employee, but by God, I took pride in the product I put out and I never wanted to ne accused of not giving 110%. I once worked one solid week with a bulging disc in my back that made breathing difficult, BUT because I knew if I called off, my department was going to be extremely short-handed, I continued working until the pain was so severe, I was off for a month. I guess I have my parents to thank for instilling a decent work ethic in me. |

Been having plumbing problems a lot lately. My primary bathroom has flooded twice in the last two weeks. The landlord called a plumbing company, which partially unclogged the pipes, but couldn't fully unclog them. The reason: some unknown obstruction in the pipe. The plumbing tech informed my landlord "Mrs. C" that they would have to snake a small tube with a tiny camera mounted on it in order to "see" the obstruction. That and the removal of the obstruction was going to cost Mrs. C over $300. She paid for the initial work($189) and told the tech to get lost. She is going to let her handyman try and address the problem. For now the toilet works(thankfully ).In other news around my homestead I came home last week to see that a package of Ramen noodles had been chewed open above my stove in the kitchen cabinet shelf. Suspected culprit: a small rat, or possibly a small rodent(mouse) of some kind. After chastising my cat, The Hammer, for failing in his rodent-control obligations inside my basement apartment, I set two "sticky" traps. They are enclosed, scented to lure the rodent, who enters the trap, gets "stuck" on the interior of the trap, and then would be easily disposed of. So far I have caught no rodent, only a few crickets. thumbs down |

Indeed. I have heard the varmint scurrying around in the wall(just once though). My "cricket" problem was solved with applications of boric acid(a powder dispensed from a tubed container) in areas where the small insects sometimes get in my residence. The large wooded area behind the house I reside in is full of critters: I have already seen a raccoon, a opossum, a couple of voles, and at night I can hear the constant hooting of what is certainly a very large owl. eyebrow |

Here's my horror story of mice.....Back in '95 and '96, I rented a two bedroom trailer from family friends. Their house was just below the trailer....the trailer had been purchased by the woman's father as a retirement home and after he re-married and later passed away, the couple's oldest son and his wife lived in the trailer before moving out of state. When I approached them about the possibility of renting, the trailer had probably been sitting empty for 2-3 years. They were pleased that I was interested and I quickly moved in......probably early August. One rare Saturday morning, when I didn't have to work, I laid in bed watching TV and enjoying the opportunity to relax on a fine Autumn morning. This was probably October and there was a definite chill in the air and I suddenly could hear the scampering of tiny feet, under the floor. Mom assured me that probably because of the trailer sitting empty for years, mice had taken up residense. We made a trip to the grocery store and put poison pellet packs out. They didn't have those 'sticky' things and I didn't want tradition traps, I thought from what I'd been told and read, the mice would partake of the poison, seek out water and die....not in the trailer. I was careful to never leave the toilet seat up and I never keep water in a sink, so I never saw any of the offending mice. Along about December, I had to put out more packs, as the original packs had been emptied. We were working 7 days a week and a good 12-14 hours/day and I worked second shift, so I often would get home until after 2:00AM. One Saturday, a week or two before Christmas, we worked and that day before leaving for work, I made something I could warm up to eat, if I was hungry when I got home. I'd set up my VCR to tape the annual NBC showing of, It's A Wonderful Life and when I got home, I warmed up something to eat, got my shower and ready for bed and went back to my bedroom to enjoy the film. I whipped back my blankets to crawl into bed and there....in my bed....was a pile of poison pellets! No mouse to be found, but the bed was full of pellets! At 3:00AM in the morning, who was I going to call and I was in sheer panic! I dressed, ran out of the trailer, jumped in my vehicle and went just down over the hill to my Mom's place. My youngest brother was sleeping on the livingroom floor and in a panic and through tears I told him what had happened. He was barely awake and told me to just go sleep in his bed, which I gratefully did. The next morning, Mom woke me up bright and early to ask what had happened and I told her. She called Richard and Charlene and described my terror. Needless to say, I spent the remainder of that week and all my Christmas vacation time at Mom's. When I finally went back home after my vacation time was over, Richard/Charlene had gone in, stripped the bed, washed the sheets/blankets and remade my bed for me and there was no critters to be seen. I never fully relaxed in that trailer, after that and because we lived in a rural setting, I used to get the biggest damn spiders in that place....another reason for me to . I had never been fearful of mice, until that time. I'm not afraid of them, now, but I sure don't want to share a bed with them! ;)

Nor would I. Continuing the "rodent" topic of conversation: In 1985 the U.S. Navy warship I was assigned to, a Knox-class frigate called the USS Aylwin(FF-1081), entered dry docks in the Charleston Naval Shipyard(part of the base itself) for what was called a "Restricted Availablity", in which only a specific task or type of work is done to the ship. The drydock, essentially a gigantic cement tub, was drained of water and the ship eased down onto the stabilizer blocks. We were in the shipyard for about a week. A week too long as far as I'm concerned. The shipyard was notorious for it's large rats(they were attracted to the multitude of dumpsters around on the docks, and also the nearby water, so I was told), and we saw some big ones, standing watch up on the foredeck. I used a bullhorn one cold, blustery night(it was early December) to warn a "yard tech"(a shipyard worker) that an enormous rat had just scurried down into a small crawlspace under the ship where the yard worker was headed. Later this fellow produced a dead rodent to me and my fellow watchstanders(two enlisted guys) on the brow. He had clobbered the rat with a baseball bat. The rodent was as large as house cat. ![]() Image: the ship I served on, the USS Aylwin(FF-1081), decommissioned in 1992. It was leased to Taiwan in 1998 and is now part of the Taiwanese Navy. |

Another phobia of Packmule's: retail monopoly syndrome. Symptoms: anger, tingling in the extemities, headaches, and nausea. Illness description: when an event occurs further enhancing the monopoly a retailer enjoys in it's respective category. My case: Best Buy monoploy syndrome, caused by this: (please read-was posted at Godzilla Yahoo group) Group Plans to Liquidate Tower Records By RANDALL CHASE, AP Business Writer Friday, October 6, 2006 (10-06) 16:16 PDT Wilmington, Del. (AP) -- After a lengthy auction stretching over two days, a federal bankruptcy judge on Friday approved the sale of California-based Tower Records to Great American Group, which plans to liquidate the music retailer. After almost 30 hours of what attorneys described as "robust" and "vigorous" bidding, Great American won with a bid of $134.3 million, beating Trans World Entertainment, which had hoped to continue operating at least some Tower stores, by a single bid increment of $500,000. Peter Gurfein, an attorney representing Tower Records, said the company will be sold for an aggregate of $150 million, including the sale of various leases and properties. Gurfein said Great American plans to begin the liquidation process and going out of business sales on Saturday, which eventually will result in the elimination of the jobs of some 3,000 Tower employees. "This is not an easy decision," said bankruptcy Judge Brendan Shannon, who nevertheless noted that the Tower debtors and other parties had agreed the bidding process was conducted fairly and in good faith. Tower Records, which has 89 stores in 20 states and owes creditors about $200 million, filed for Chapter 11 reorganization in August. In its filing, the company said it has been hurt by an industrywide decline in music sales, downloading of online music and competition from big-box stores such as Wal-Mart. Tower's Chapter 11 filing came two years after initial reorganization that resulted in bondholders forgiving millions of dollars in debt but taking an 85 percent stake in the company, leaving founder Russ Solomon and his family with 15 percent. Solomon founded Tower in Sacramento, Calif., in 1960, starting by selling records out of his father's drug store and eventually opening the company's landmark store on Hollywood's Sunset Boulevard in 1969. As part of the bankruptcy auction, the Sunset property will be sold for $12 million. Michael Bloom, an attorney representing Tower's secured trade creditors, urged Shannon to consider the closeness of the bids and the effect that liquidation would have before deciding whether to approve the sale. "We can save this company or we can liquidate it," Bloom argued. "... Sometimes, the highest bid is not the best bid. In this case, your honor, we believe the best bid is the Trans World bid." Trans World, which has about 1,100 mostly mall-based stores nationwide, has recently acquired other music retailers such as Sam Goody and Wherehouse Music, consolidating most of its acquisitions under the FYE name, which stands for For Your Entertainment. Tim Pohl, an attorney representing Trans World, asked the judge whether $500,000 was "a material enough difference" to liquidate a company, as opposed to keeping thousands of people employed. But Jay Indyke, an attorney for Great American, said Trans World and its bidding partners had discussed liquidating inventory and closing about two dozen Tower stores, and that they would not say how many stores they would continue to operate.

Yes, seeing something that large in the rodent family would definitely unnerve me!When my Grandma and Granddad were still newlyweds, they and a couple of other couples used to get together on a weekend evening and head down to this place where rats were known to be and the women would visit while the men would shoot rats for something to do! Now, this was in the mid-30s, so not a lot to do in a tiny rural area like this, but I;d have been less-than-pleased, had my evening of entertainment been sitting around watching rats being shot! <_< Now, fashion styles go in and out and must be women's pants weer kind of like bell-bottoms back then, as Grandma actually had a rat run up her pants leg and bit her!

In the end, Mom, Carol and I were quite pleased with the results. Mom purchased some of Carol's games for the kids for Christmas gifts and a couple of my items and we each bought a couple of things from Mom! B) I'd say at least 85% of the stuff was sold and the final day we marked everything at half off and that brought a lot of folks in. What didn't sell, we bundled up and took to a charity shop and donated the items. The only things I held on to were my VHS that didn't sell. Carol held onto a couple of games and Mom held onto a few larger items and says she's having another sale, next Spring, so we'll haul what little we have left back up to Mom's and hope it all goes, next time. |

thumbs up My landlord, "Mrs. C", could, based on the contents of the other part of her basement, have a serious yard sale. Among the items in her basement storage room, and all still in good working order: a floor-model 25" TV, a coffee-maker, several lounge chairs, a love-seat, various oscillating fans, a slew of cutlery, silverware and goblets, several porcelain vases, a half-dozen or more oil paintings, a 1998 Dell computer monitor and keyboard, nightstands, two coffee tables, and various other trinkets and small chairs. ghostly 1 |

Though their prices were sometimes more than I wanted to see, I always enjoyed shopping at Tower Records, mainly because I could always snag a CD or two while picking up a "New Release" type DVD I wanted. Their CD selection has always been good, much, much better than Best Buy. I also liked the fact that the "Tower" store was only about a 20 minute walk from my residence, and their "Foreign DVD" section was always decent. With Tower Records gone I will have few alternatives now for DVD shopping(not online): the Best Buy store about 2 miles away, the Circuit City store about 2 miles away, and the Blockbuster Video store about a 10 minite walk from my apartment. I have essentially given up on Circuit City as a viable place to shop. The last time I ventured into the one close to where I live, looking for the BCI Ultraman disc, I was disgusted at how sorry their DVD inventory had become, and I know this is not a one time thing, because it has been this way at this store ever since I can remember. The closing of the Tower Record store where I live is disconcerting for me, no doubt about it. ghostly face |

I killed a large rodent at a plant nursery I worked at here in Atlanta in the fall of 1995(just before entering the landscaping industry). Several young women around the nursery became unnerved and bordered on hysteria, claiming to have seen a large rodent scurrying around the seedhouse. Being the opportunist I offered my services to the trio of young ladies, who were all reasonably attractive, on the condition that I get a date with one of them(I wasn't picky about which one ). They reluctantly agreed. I found the rat, a grisly little critter to be sure, and killed it with a large stick. After seeing it's carcass the three female nursery employees conferred among themselves and, later in the day, one of them approached me and dinner date preparations were made. I actually dated this lady for about five months, before she was compelled to move back to Illinois, to help her parents with a declining family business(a restaurant). After a few letters to/from "April" our contact petered down to zilch. A shame really. One of the best gals I ever socialized with. I guess I should have thanked that poor rat for given me those five months with this gal. eyebrow

I know my Grandmother has so many cool items that she could yard sale it with or even eBay it with and get tons of money! I used to avoid lawn sale like the plague, but have rethought my attitude and eralize a great many treasures can be found at such sales. dancing admin |
