Welcome to MONSTERLAND FORUMS! We are a casual and friendly online community of movie fans who like to talk about giant monsters, horror and sci-fi in cinema, on television and on Blu Ray/DVD. There are forums for sports, casual chat and video games as well. For those of you who like making art, writing stories and creating videos, our community includes a forum for these submissions as well. Check out our main index page and other board forums! Anyone is welcome to join our community!

MONSTERLAND FORUMS was created on January 29, 2006 for the purpose of giving fans of giant monster films and other sci-fi/horror movies a friendly online meeting place to discuss all of their favorite films and other things of interest like video gaming and sports.

MONSTERLAND FORUMS has 180,000 posts. This online community, while over twelve years old, is currently no longer as active as the early years(between 2007-2009). Still, we have a half dozen members who continue to participate here.

For those who enjoy giant monster movies be sure to check out THE MEG, opening in theaters on August 10th, 2018. This film, based on the 1997 book "Meg", written by Steve Alten, features an enormous, 75 foot long Megalodon shark! Other giant monster movies that we fans can look forward to: GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS(in 2019) and GODZILLA VS KONG in 2020! PACIFIC RIM-UPRISING(2018), the sequel to 2013's "Pacific Rim", is about to release to Ultra 4k and Blu Ray. In these movies, 250 foot tall robots defend Earth from an assault of other worldly giant monsters(kaiju).

the one that had Santa riding the razor through town....remember that one, that was on when I was just a kid, so it's a good 30+ years old, now!
I remember that commercial Kimi, the one about the Norelco-riding Santa. It was sharp( tongue-1 ).

I don't really like any of the Christmas commercials that are on television now. thumbs down

Fatigue is still dogging me, aided in part by some very arduous planting jobs at work, which includes tomorrow(Friday). nonono

Looking forward to my "vacation"-my company shuts down after 12/22(Friday) and doesn't re-open until 1/2/07(Tuesday), so I have a ten-day furlough. thumbs up

I have been told by a co-worker that on 12/22 each employee will receive their regular week's paycheck, their week's paid vacation, and some kind of monetary bonus on top of that. For me, assuming the boss were to drop, say a $100 bonus on me then that, coupled with my other two checks, would be equal to roughly $875.00, which is good, considering my monthly bills will be all paid by 12/15. bravo clap

I'm trying to think of a current Christmas commercial that stands out, but I can't think of any!

Though I do not like any Christmas commercials on TV right now, there are some general commercials that I do like, including:

-the Geico insurance commercials featuring the caveman(the airport escalator scene) and the cavemen seated at the restaurant table with the Geico rep-one of the cavemen hands the waiter his menu in disgust, stating that he has lost his appetite. crazy

-I also like the "Jack's" beef-jerky commercial where the two guys(campers) pull a prank on a "Bigfoot", who is understandably not happy about it. laughing smiley

Just finished a hard work week last week-planting lots of large tree-form shrubs and trees with 36" tall root balls that weigh 300 lbs each or more. dead

This past Friday morning was especially difficult, as the fahrenheit temp was 20 degrees, with a wind-chill making it feel more like 15 degrees. freak out

Another hard week coming up, with more large shrubs, We also have a planting job that entails about 60 (3 gal) plants, all to be installed on a hillside. Hillside work can be dangerous. Back in 1998 I lost my balance, while planting various azaleas, on an ivy covered embankment and fell down the slope about 70 feet to the bottom-the heavy layer of ivy cushioned my fall and I quickly curled my self into a "ball" after starting to fall downwards. I ended up with a mild ankle sprain and a contusion on my arm that required 20 stitches to close at the workmans comp clinic. The doc said I could have been killed. My response, if I remember correctly, was No sh*t!! freak out

Earlier this year a Latino foreman(working with me on a particularly large property) at my place of work fell out of a large magnolia tree(after he had been pruning the top of it), as he was descending out of it via nylon straps, from about 20 feet up. One of his straps simply snapped, Luckily for him, many of the limbs broke his fall, and he ended up with only bumps, bruises, and a knot on his head. At the advice of our workmans comp doctor he was taken to a local hospital to be checked out. He also had a neck sprain, and endured several weeks of therapy and chiropractic visits.

 I have seen that beef jerky Bigfoot commercial and that's funny. I also liked the one that I believe previewed during the Super Bowl.....I've only seen it a time or two, but it's also a prehistoric send-off on some shipping company, I believe and in the end, a dino crunches someone beneath his foot. Mr Green

I like the Geico commercial with the caveman in the airport, I like the tune! Mr Green

Most of the time, I take a commercial break as an opportunity to channel surf, but some will grab my attention.

Ouch! Sounds like you as well as fellow employees have taken some nasty tumbles! I've never required any stitches from an injury, just various surgeries and I don't think I;d want the bit abount being numbed directly into the wound before stitching takes place. freak out

Working in the industry I did, we saw some nasty injuries, but actually, our plant was deemed one of the safiest in that industry and they really preached work safety......you could be written up or lose your job for certain infractions. I had to have carpal tunnel surgery in both hands as a result of work and endured a bulging disc in my back as well as plenty of bruises and minor cuts.

One clean-up guy wasn't so lucky. I was the forumlator/blender in my department and on our shift for several years. At the time, we had a 5000-6000 pound blender that held the main product. Naturally, to blend the product, it had large mixing/blending things...name escapes me at the moment.....they rotated in opposite directions until I got the blender emptied to about 2000 pounds and then I'd push the product out with these 'things' turning in the same direction. Periodically, I'd have to 'scrape' the blending things of gound meat that would accumulate or fat and at the end of the night, it had to be scraped as clean as we could get it, with these long scrapers. Clean-up would come in and clean/wash everything down and one night, the guy assigned to clean the blender out, saw a long sting of meat slapping around still attached, he thought he could pull it off, quickly without the need to shut down and lock out the blender. He was wrong and for that mistake, the spinner ripper three fingers off and took every tendone and pulled them out from his shoulder, through the now spots where his finegrs once were! cheeky sick smiley

Those ESPN commercials are pretty good and I also like....not sure if it's Visa, but it's the one about theft and the two old ladies are sitting on the sofa and talking about the motorcycles they 'bought'....that one cracks me up every time. 'Yeaaaahhhhhhh.....shoot!'.

Yes, it does! There were some serious injuries, but most were the result of people trying to do something too fast or bypassing the safe way of performing a job. Sometimes, it was actually a co-worker that inflicted the injuries! Overall, it was a safe place to work, according to accident reports.

I also like the "Vonage" commercial where the woman on the beach looks up and says "Look honey! Dolphins!", then starts to head for the water to presumably swim with them...the "dolphins" actually being sharks. laughing smiley

One that's on right now and seems to be on every channel and every minutes is the guy eating the Campbell's soups and is always tipping back in a chair or something and all you har is, 'Mmmm...Mmmmm...Mmmmm'!

I HATE that commercial so much! very angry The guy annoys me, the commercial annoys me and I can't mute or turn from that commercial, fast enough! freak out

Which is probably a good thing, people feel they're being nagged at times, but it seems some people you have to tell the same thing all the time, because the minute you don't, they aren't careful and end up getting hurt. Kind of reminds me of an, All In the Family episode. Edith made rice pudding or something and Archie told her to put a little milk on his, Edith kind of chuckles and says she's been making rice pudding for something like 25 years and Archie asks every time for a little bit of milk on his. Archie looks at her and said that last week she made it and he didn't tell her to put the milk on and what happened? She replied she didn't put the milk on and Archie looks at her and replies, 'Dingbat!'.

I haven't seen that one...and from your description of it I'm glad I haven't. shifty eyes

I always liked the "Donovan McNabb" "Chunky" soup commercials. A favorite of mine was one that started airing on television shortly after the Eagle's Super Bowl loss(a 24-21 defeat) to the New England Patriots in early 2005. In it McNabb and another Eagles player are sampling New England clam chowder. McNabb remarks, after swallowing a spoonful: "This is from New England eh? Well I like it anyway."

There is a term I remember seeing in a safety handbook many years ago: consciously competent. As safety was obviously a priority at your former place of work, Kimi, perhaps you are familiar with this term. It refers to everyday things we, as people, do, that does require us to think about the action we are doing as we are doing it. A good example of this would be driving one's vehicle. Likewise, the term unconsciously competent refers to those activities that require no thought while we are doing them. Examples of these kinds of activities: sleeping, using the restroom( tongue-1 ), eating, drinking.

Other spam from Packmule: my landlord, Mrs. "C", told me I didn't have to pay her any rent for the week of 12/22-12/29, which = $125 more in my wallet bravo clap

I finally strung some blinking lights on my Christmas tree, a 6' Leyland cypress currently residing in a 25 gallon pot. I also decorated a smaller, artificial, tabletop tree(about 2' tall). To be honest the smaller tree looks better with the lights. freak out

As mentioned before, expect from pics of me and co-workers, and pics of my apartment, by the middle or latter part of next week... dancing cheeky smiley

Yes, it has, thanks. :) I had to undergo a couple of rounds of antibiotics, because the infection was so severe and it took a good while for the area to heal, but I assume that's due to being diabetic. Thanks for asking. :)

It's interesting to note that there was a mild controversy over some of the "McNabb" Chunky soup commercials-a black woman would serve McNabb soup(which he hungrily devoured) and he addressed her as "mom", though she wasn't his mother at all, but was an actress. The situation was rectified, and quickly, by Campbell's soup, who hired Donovan McNabb's real mother for the subsequent Chunky soup commercials. thumbs up

So very true!

Another phobia that I often forget to list, but scares the bejesus out of me is......death! freak out Everything associated with death scares me. I don't want to die slowly, painfully or around the holiday season! I don't dwell on death, but when I read in the paper about someone near my age passing away, it hits me that I'm definitely not ready and don't want to die. Now, that's probably not the smartest thing I;ve ever written, I don't imagine there are too many people that want to 'die', but some folks are very at peace with that transition of life, not me!
