Welcome to MONSTERLAND FORUMS! We are a casual and friendly online community of movie fans who like to talk about giant monsters, horror and sci-fi in cinema, on television and on Blu Ray/DVD. There are forums for sports, casual chat and video games as well. For those of you who like making art, writing stories and creating videos, our community includes a forum for these submissions as well. Check out our main index page and other board forums! Anyone is welcome to join our community!

MONSTERLAND FORUMS was created on January 29, 2006 for the purpose of giving fans of giant monster films and other sci-fi/horror movies a friendly online meeting place to discuss all of their favorite films and other things of interest like video gaming and sports.

MONSTERLAND FORUMS has 180,000 posts. This online community, while over twelve years old, is currently no longer as active as the early years(between 2007-2009). Still, we have a half dozen members who continue to participate here.

For those who enjoy giant monster movies be sure to check out THE MEG, opening in theaters on August 10th, 2018. This film, based on the 1997 book "Meg", written by Steve Alten, features an enormous, 75 foot long Megalodon shark! Other giant monster movies that we fans can look forward to: GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS(in 2019) and GODZILLA VS KONG in 2020! PACIFIC RIM-UPRISING(2018), the sequel to 2013's "Pacific Rim", is about to release to Ultra 4k and Blu Ray. In these movies, 250 foot tall robots defend Earth from an assault of other worldly giant monsters(kaiju).

I'm always interested in these submissions, Matthew. Sometimes it takes me a little longer to look it over because I work full time and often go to bed early on weeknights. The delay in watching them doesn't mean I'm not interested. winky

Just don't let me near the cutlery.
Or emergency axes.
Or weapons closet.
Or sharp objects of various nature.
Or animals light enough to be thrown.
Or deathrays.
You have to follow those rules too!? We have more in common than I thought, Kex.

Well, tonight my elderly landlord had over a caregiver who comes every other Thursday. This woman who helps out is also a marvelous cook, and always leaves me a plate on the sun room table upstairs. Tonight I feasted on strips of roast beef(and gravy), green beans sprinkled with diced onions, steamed cabbage(lightly seasoned with black pepper), two crab cakes and a large piece of cornbread. groink!

Two things here, jump out at me based on your post:

1. you misspelled the words "sandwich" and "bologna"

2. you appear to have a keen grasp of the obvious

I don't consider you a Christmas "grinch". In fact, I'm not at all sure how to describe you. I can say that the following words might describe you, based on the content and tone of your posts: surly, brusque, sarcastic, cynical, self absorbed and even arrogant. I could be certain of these words only by meeting you in person and hanging out with you for a time. Since I am not interested in meeting new people and/or making new friends in real life it doesn't really matter what I think of you...does it? winky tongue-1

Respectfully, what's so unusual about that? From my own life experience, which by the way spans about thirty years more than your own. I can tell you that the vast majority of people I've worked with and socialized with all questioned their morality, to some degree, during some point of their lives. Hell, for many people it's a constant in their lives. Kex, I'm not trying to get inside your head. Even if I knew you personally I wouldn't try and because my familiarity with you is limited basically to the internet it would be pointless, and completely assinine to try. When you mention "morally questionable" I'm just saying there are a lot of people in the world who question themselves on all levels, and all the time, me included.

Everyone is morally questionable to a degree in that they always place themselves above others, whether they like to admit it or not. I do this differently, in a half-full-half-empty way; I don't place myself higher than others, I place others lower than me. I have been known to be intentionally destructive not only to secure advantages for myself (Profit at the expense of others) but also for sheer amusement, which is commonly interpreted as an "evil" trait.
(That said, I cannot consider soldiers "evil" because they follow the command of another human being)

Quote:

Sometimes I get the impression from the wording of your posts that you relish the fact your classmates are afraid of you. If you do then that's your business. Having been around people I feared, and those that in turn feared me, I can say that in the vast majority of situations the feeling I came away with from this situations was a lousy one. When I was younger I was certain I would enjoy being feared but I was wrong: I didn't enjoy it all. For you it may be different. Either way it's your business.

Although it surprised me at first, I enjoy being feared because I am a strictly non-social person. I dislike almost all social situations that involve two or more people other than me, to the point where groups make me positively nervous. Being feared means people stay away from me, and that is exactly what I want.

Quote:

African hunting spears? Interesting. I'm not sure why they would be afraid of that. I went to high school with some male classmates who actually owned handguns(which they kept at home obviously), one classmate who owned a 12 gauge shotgun and another fellow who owned a collection of martial arts style weapons, including num chucks, brass knuckles and a really menacing looking ninja sword. Was I afraid of the guy? No.

As to your mention of "black list" my first thought is it's some sort of list of people you dislike. Or is it something more? If it's a list of people, including text written by you that includes threats, then I could see why that would concern your classmates.

It frightens them because:
1) Due to intense gun control, it is very unlikely for anyone to have weapons in Sweden unless they're professional hunters.
2) My class knows I have a soft spot for the dramatic. I have more than once stated that if I would kill someone, I would do so in an artistic manner, and there is honestly no more artistic human way of killing than chasing your prey down with a spear designed for the hunt. One can try, and try, and try, but there really isn't.
3) Black lists are in most countries a symbol of things that are banned/undesirable, but in Sweden usually considered a list of things that must be terminated. I have a list of people that do not actually have to be terminated, but I would definitely and honestly not lose a moment's sleep if they did. Because I refer to it as "black list", they have a different impression, and apparently I'm not good enough at explaining to change this.

Quote:

Kex, I've never gotten the impression you're a bad person. On the contrary, I believe you're a good person, like me, just not very adept at showing it around others. If you disagree and want to blow that opinion of mine out of the water feel free.

I build my understanding of myself out of what I hear about myself. If you have a different impression, I have no reason to disagree or deny yours. In fact, it's a rather refreshing one.

Quote:

You have to follow those rules too!? We have more in common than I thought, Kex.

Apparently. Let's go build a MechaGodzilla.

Based on my own self-anlysis:

1: Maybe a bit.

2: Wikipedia doesn't have this page, and I don't know what it means.

3: Yes

4: Not really; A lot of people get the impression that I'm either cynical or optimistic. In truth, I don't look at only the bad or only the good; I just like to evaluate every possible option and make sure it has been looked at from all angles.

5: Very much so.

6: Definitely.

7: It does if you want the antidote...

And, on a final note, if you still son't believe I'm evil: I am thrown into uncontrollable fits of laughter every time someone I hate cries, and I have a habit of pulling the legs off of harvestman arachnids.

The difference is that while someone who considers themselves higher find themselves to be an exceptionally good person and others mediocre, I find other people exceptionally bad while I myself am mediocre.

Quote:

Note how very related to evil they are. Something that is evil is something that is intentionally destructive.

Quote:

Almost all? What are the exceptions?

Rare things, such as a gathering of my (few, but very enjoyable) friends, or a family meeting (that is only my family, not other relatives).

Quote:

I have known a few people, both in high school and also in college, who talked about kiilling someone, and went into a lot of verbal theatrics about it. I always came away with the impression these fellows were just looking to draw attention unto themselves, even though they acted as if they hated anyone speaking to them.

I don't want to kill anyone, I have just stated how, hypothetically, I would have done it.
For the record, the attention I draw makes people back away from me in the end, and that is something extremely pleasant for me, because I do hate most people speaking to me. Not, however, necessarily BECAUSE they speak to me.

Quote:

Let me add something here: I hope your conversations about killing someone aren't taken seriously, by either yourself or those around you who hear your words. I have made an effort to clarify that I would not kill, but frankly, people in general are idiots who only hear the sensational part. If they so intently refuse to accept that I am harmless, why bother?
And for the record, the difference between Sweden and the United States is that your country, from what I have seen, read, and heard, is far more paranoid. People can be afraid of me here, but they will not accuse me. I could tell a person in my class "I would like to see you dead" and they might be creeped out, but leave me alone as long as I did the same to them.

Quote:

That is the criteria I'm sticking to. Instinct is mandatory; it has nothing to do with my individuality. Media is never to be trusted.

Quote:

And, on a final note, if you still son't believe I'm evil: I am thrown into uncontrollable fits of laughter every time someone I hate cries, and I have a habit of pulling the legs off of harvestman arachnids.

That's not evil, that's just funny. I myself can't help laughing insanely for various reasons.
My laugh has even been voted the School's Best Laugh last year, and hopefully this year as well.

Note how very related to evil they are
I am aware of the similarities. That was why I posted them: because they are similar...but NOT the same. winky

... and that is something extremely pleasant for me, because I do hate most people speaking to me
Question: how do you hate people you do not know personally? I'm referring to those classmates of yours you do not know, not those you may know very well.

I have made an effort to clarify that I would not kill, but frankly, people in general are idiots who only hear the sensational part
Kex, I have had a loaded gun pointed in my face twice in my lifetime. In each instance, and in retrospect, I don't believe the person pointing the gun at me had any intention of shooting me. Did I assume that at the time of the incidents? No: I assumed they were going to shoot, until, and thankfully, they said or did something to suggest otherwise. The world is filled with so much gun violence now, and I'm not even including the wars always seemingly going on, that I think most people would be inclined to take any kind of talk from someone of shooting, or in some other fashion killing someone, very seriously. I understand that this reaction can be perceived as being overblown and an overreaction. I can. That said I am not prepared to categorize a person as an idiot for reacting this way: nervous or presumptuous maybe, but not idiotic. Two years ago I heard a rumor that a Hispanic co-worker at my place of work was talking about bringing a gun to work and shooting me. I reacted very strongly, taking it VERY seriously and immediately confronted this fellow, asking him if he made this threat. This co-worker denied ever saying such a thing, and did so face to face with me, looking me in the eye. I believed him. Am I an idiot for not being able to figure out that he was just kidding around when he said he was going to shoot me to other workers?

And for the record, the difference between Sweden and the United States is that your country, from what I have seen, read, and heard, is far more paranoid
I am inclined to agree. Schools have become much more violent here in the United States, at times. Obviously most are reasonably secure but horrific shooting rampages like Columbine High School in Colorado(in 1999) and the more recent rampage by the Asian fellow at Virginia Tech University(in Blackburg, VA) have absolutely had an effect, and a bad one, on schools all over.

Given you definition, Pack, I can say that I am most definitely Brusque.

I have been accused, by co-workers and past girlfriends, of being brusque. winky
