I actually had a minor dental incident of my own this week: while eating a very good Washington apple, a small piece of the outer enamel on one of my rear molars broke off-I called my dentist, who scheduled an appointment for me in mid January of next year to "fill in" the spot of missing enamel.

Yes, I think so also. She is like this with just about everyone she knows. She is beloved by her family-her husband, a lawyer, died in 1991 and she has three surviving daughters, all around my age or a little older. I have met most of her family-they all seem like nice people. I have tried to be a good tenant and I always drop in to check on her 3-4 times a week. Mr Green |

Same here, and though it is unsettling for me, I don't allow myself to dwell on it. If I did I would end up a basket case. When my time comes, it comes, and there's no way to know when that is, and probably nothing I can do about it. I've accepted it. :( |

That doesn't sound too pleasant. Does it feel weird or is it painful at all, Lee? I'm surprised, when I was a kid, most Dentist offices had 'emergency' appointments set aside, meaning if someone.....anyone had a dental emergency come up, they had appointment times set aside to accommodate a person, but it appears this is a thing of the past. Several years ago, my youngest brother had a couple of teeth broken off, while kick-boxing and had to have caps put on and other assorted things done to the two teeth. One weekend, he and I went to the Drive-In and he took a bite of something and snapped the two teeth off, again. He was in agony and we called several Dentist offices in the area and the BEST any one of them could do was a month's wait! thumbs down He finally found a Dentist willing to squeeze him in after a week of waiting. To me, that's just bad! I sure hope you're not in any kind of discomfort, Lee. I know, if some tooth feels different from any other tooth, I can never keep my tongue off it or away from it and then my tongue gets sore, too! maniac |

I'm sure you're a wonderful tenant and you know, the thing that might just mean the most to her is you dropping by. I'm not sure how old Mrs C is, but I think often, older people can be forgotten at times, not necessarily intentionally, but with busy lives, they tend to take a back seat and just calling them or stopping by can really brighten their day. Nor, do I. Like you said, if I was to do that, I;d be sitting around 24/7, wringing my hands and in a cold sweat! I think the one thing that amazed was, when I was 18-21, Dad and I were walking in the cemetery that was directly across the road from where my Grandma and Granddad lived. Now, my parents lost two babies, a baby girl born 9 months before I was....she was born far too early and only lived 2 hours and then when I was three, they lost a baby boy, three days following his birth from a quick-developing pneumonia. My older sister was buried in my maternal grandparent's burial lot and my baby brother was put in a different cemetery in a burial lot that my parents purchased after his passing. When my parents divored, Dad retained the burial plot and purchased the gravestone with my paternal grandparents names engraved on the stone along with my brother's. Now, both paternal grandparents were still living at the time and as Dad and I visited the grave, I told them how unsettling that would be for me, to walk into a cemetery, see my name and date of birth, while I was still living! Dad said I was still young and death shouldn't even be in my mind, but to my Grandma and Granddad, who were much older, it was almost comforting to them to know, when their time came, they had someplace to be buried in!

No, to both. thumbs up I'm not Kimi. Thanks for the sentiment. :) The piece of enamel that came off was fairly small, but the dentist informed me it would be necessary to come in so that it can be filled. I have already informed the boss, who has given me that day off from work(in mid January 0f '07). thumbs up |

She's 86 years old. I have considered that and I think you are probably right. As my father advanced in years, and after the early stages of Alzheimer's began to set in, his doctor reminded me and the other members in the family to continue our routine of visiting him regularly and often-it pained me to do so, often, because I did not like seeing him gradually waste away, both physically and mentally. I did it because of the doctor's recommendation, and because I felt that being around my father would somehow bring him some small amount of comfort in his last remaining years. I sure hope it did. :( I agree. My landlord, "Mrs. C", often complains that her grown daughters don't visit her very often. All of her daughters are financially well off, have well-paying jobs, and are completely independent, and with their own respective families. My own father would often complain that no one visited him, though everyone in the family knew it wasn't true. In Mrs. C's case I believe her complaint is justified. She has one daughter who visits her once a week. Of the other two, one has been by once since I moved in(July 1 of this year) and the other daughter has not been by even once, since I moved here. thumbs down |

I'm sorry to hear you, your Dad and family had to deal with Alzheimer's, Lee, when I was 15, I moved in with a great-Aunt/Uncle and cousin...my great-Aunt and Grandma (Mom's Mom) are sisters and they'd married brothers, so it was a double family whammy, so to speak. Anyway, my great-Grandmother lived on her own for years, following the passing of her husband, but for several years, Grandma was becoming more 'forgetful' and finally when my cousin and I were about 16, we moved Grandma in with us. It was very difficult seeing this strong woman, who worked side-by-side with her husband on their farm and taught school at one time, wasting away, mentally. My Aunt and my Grandmother kept her out of a nursing home until it was absolutely necessary to place her in one and that was only because she'd fallen in spite of all the care given to her and then my Aunt and Grandmother visited her almost every day. That's a frightening 'disease' and it's tough to watch someone you love go through something like that...... On a bit of a side-note for our SPAM thread.....I found it rather interesting that I had a fried Spam sandwich for breakfast, yesterday. Mr Green |

He's like me, caucasian, and in his forties-he's approximately two years older than I am, and understands, all too well, the increased number of aches and pains, and other more frequent medical things that may arise as a man enters and progresses through his 40's. In fact, he has struggled with on & off hemorrhoids for the last 18 months-my boss' doctor also discovered, during his latest physical exam, an enlarged prostate. Fortunately my boss's blood work came back normal, and his doctor has him on a prescription medication to reduce the inflammation of his prostate. He and I both have our problems here and there Kimi.

I can understand why they would feel that way. When I am that age I think I would feel the same. :) Other crapola from the mind of Packmule: I've been struggling with a sharp flareup of gout in my right big toe since early Sunday AM. To try and ease the pain I have been drinking a lot more water every day(about 2-2.5 liters a day) and taking ibuprofen for the inflammation/pain. maniac As I expected this week is shaping up to be our hardest of the year-my company's owner is trying to squeeze every bit of billing for materials he can out of our jobs. thumbs down |

The nice thing is, Lee, you both understand the aches and pains and don't ignore the need to take care of these things when they do crop up. When I was still able to work, I was very fortunate to have supervisors and group leaders that were very understanding of my health issues and did as much as they could to make my work life more bearable. :) |

thumbs up Aside from my minor dental repair work I have been contemplating paying to have a massage once a month, or even twice. I get frequent tension headaches, due to muscle tension in my back and neck brought on from work and general anxiety. I have never been to a masseuse or a masseur. One of the reasons for that is that I have never been enamored with the idea of another person, a stranger, putting their hands on me. It may sound crazy but I have always been picky about who gets to touch my chassis. crazy My girlfriend, Gloria, is very good at massage, using her hands and her feet(walking all over my back), but I only see her twice a month(alternating weekends and usually only for one day, a Saturday). She has given me a business card of a friend of hers who works as a chiropractor's assistant and also works PT, on her own, and on weekends, as a masseuse-she travels around Atlanta on weekends to make house calls for people wanting her massages-she charges $65/hr. I'm mulling it over. eyebrow |

![]() As I have been scouring Best Buy and Circuit City's websites in search of another television, a flatscreen, for my back "computer room", I have decided not to go with a bigger screen-many of the 32" flatscreens and especially the 36" flatscreens are just more expensive than what I want to spend-my budget is $400 plus tax(= to about $430). With this in mind I have narrowed it down to a few models: Best Buy: 1. Toshiba 26" widescreen-flatscreen TV model # 26DF56 reg: $399.99 currently on sale for $ 359.99 2. Sharp 27" flatscreen model 27SF560 reg: $339.99 currently on sale for $ 279.99 Circuit City: 1. Sylvania 27" flatscreen TV model 6427GFG reg $309.99 2. Yes. It's been a long year, and I'm tired and beat up. I get gout "flareups" about 5-6 times a year, though they are no longer severe enough to keep me from walking(for a couple of days), like the first couple of years of getting it in my feet(1997 and 1998). There are reasons why I don't get severe attacks of gout anymore: I drink more water, I eat far less red meat now than I used to, I eat far less fried food than I used to, and I consume far less beer now(2-3 beers a week) than I used to(at least a six pack per week as recent as 1999). I even get a gout flareup in my elbow about once a year. I also know now how to go about taking the edge off the pain: naproxen(found in "Aleve") or ibuprofen(found in "Motrin") does a decent job of this). I also soak my foot(or toe) in warm water(with Epsom salts). My last day at work is this Friday, 12-22. I will not report back to work until Tuesday, January 2, 2007. I am not placing this site offline while I'm on vacation, though I may not be posting nearly as much during my "break". I have some major apt cleaning and laundry to do. I will be online though, here and there, during my time off from work. faster <!--emo&shifty eyes--> <!--endemo-->

 That made my very early morning, Lee! I think a massage would be a wonderful thing, I have had non-professional massages and they are always wonderful, but seem to end far too soon! I have a friend that is a trained masseuse, but somehow, having a close friend doing the massage doesn't seem comfortable, but then, neither does a stranger. I tend to be a bit shy and easily embarrassed about things, so while I;d love it, I probably couldn't do it.....mine will have to remain the occasional massage....by a non-professional. Mr Green |

I'm a bit surprised at some of those prices, I thought they'd be much higher....wonder if these are Christmas specials and how long they might last? I'd love a flatscreen/widescreen, but even if I could afford one, it probably couldn't be any larger than 26", just because any I;ve looked at are pricey to me at that size and anything larger than that suddenly spikes to some insane amounts of money. :( Be eager to hear which model you decide on. |

I'm leaning towards a 27" flat screen TV from Best Buy in the $300 range after tax. I like the 26" widescreen flat screen but it is $400 plus tax. I can live with a 27" flat screen for now. Ultimately, I want to: -use the 27" flat screen for cable television viewing(the one I'm going to buy)(livingroom) -use my 30" widescreen flat screen for DVDs(in my livingroom) -use my 36" standard screen TV for DVD viewing(in the back room of my residence, the 'computer" room/office) A friend of mine is loaning me his pickup truck and handtruck tomorrow afternoon so I can transport the TV to my basement apartment. faster <!--emo&shifty eyes--> <!--endemo-->

Yes, and I doubt it will ever be this high again. It's usually no more than 5-6 DVDs sitting on my coffee table in the livingroom, however I have been holding off watching these discs until my ten day break from work. I currently have 14 titles to watch, in addition to the "Ultraseven" and "Ultraman Jack" episodes, and several more DVDs I put in my racks without watching, including "King Kong(1933) and Konga(1961). reading |
