There are forums for sports, casual chat and video games as well. For those of you who like making art, writing stories and creating videos, our community includes a forum for these submissions as well. Check out our main index page and other board forums! Anyone is welcome to join our community!

MONSTERLAND FORUMS was created on January 29, 2006 for the purpose of giving fans of giant monster films and other sci-fi/horror movies a friendly online meeting place to discuss all of their favorite films and other things of interest like video gaming and sports.

MONSTERLAND FORUMS has 180,000 posts. This online community, while over twelve years old, is currently no longer as active as the early years(between 2007-2009). Still, we have a half dozen members who continue to participate here.

For those who enjoy giant monster movies be sure to check out THE MEG, opening in theaters on August 10th, 2018. This film, based on the 1997 book "Meg", written by Steve Alten, features an enormous, 75 foot long Megalodon shark! Other giant monster movies that we fans can look forward to: GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS(in 2019) and GODZILLA VS KONG in 2020! PACIFIC RIM-UPRISING(2018), the sequel to 2013's "Pacific Rim", is about to release to Ultra 4k and Blu Ray. In these movies, 250 foot tall robots defend Earth from an assault of other worldly giant monsters(kaiju).

I'm no longer able to work because of health problems, but for almost 15 years I worked in a beef processing plant in the 'grinding' department.  I worked second shift most of those 15 years and worked my way up from floor positions as a 'packer', 'scaler', 'reworker' and in the boxroom to a 'grinder' and finally the 'formulator'/'blender'.  When I first started at the plant, the grinding department was more of a seasonal department and second shift would often slow way down in the Spring and Summer and be very busy in Fall and winter, but after just a few years of seasonal work, it really picked up and I found myself working 12+ hours a day, seven days a week.  Near the end of my working days, I was moved from the cold temps (in an effort to keep me healthier)...the grinding room was the coldest in the plant other than the freezers, because we were working with the beef once it had been slaughtered and boned out, so temps were usually 30ºF or less with huge fans blowing, constantly.  I was moved into our department office where I did the grinding department's daily paperwork...keeping track of meat that was ground and products that was produced on a daily basis.....I loved my job, actually, both working in the department and later, in the office.  I also worked as a Postmaster leave replacement and delivered mail on a rural route for extra money, but eventually, when the work at the processing plant became less seasonal, I gave up the mail delivery and replacement work.

I know a lot of people are horrified when I tell them what I did and I have actually gotten to be friends with people online that based on what I did for a living, considered not getting to know me any better, assuming I wasn't intelligent if I did a job like that.  All I can say is, I busted behind for most of those 15 years, often performaning jobs in  the department that no woman had ever done before and I was always very proud of the work I did and felt anyone working in any department of the plant earned every penny and then some!  I know I made some wonderful friends while working at the plant and actually miss my job.  After working from the time I graduated high school until late '98, trying to adjust to no longer being able to work and having to adjust to living on Social Security disability benefits after 60-80 hour checks has been a huge shock to me.

I am sorry to hear that you can no longer work. I can relate to being pre-judged. My father never approved of my career choice, believing me better suited for something white collar, e.g. becoming a lawyer, politician, even a teacher. -- Most homeowners I talk to would probably be surprised to learn I have a college degree, or that I am a certified Landscape Technician(not a prerequisite in the industry for what I do but it is a helpful course for improving my level of competence). The work you describe being a part of sounds very tough, and you worked hard at it as well, which I commend you for, as I would anyone who works in rough-and-tough jobs. Have you considered any kind of a work-at-home job situation for yourself? :)

Thanks very much. I agree, it's tough when someone is prejudged because of anything, but because of the line of work they do, simply amazes me! Obviously, we'd all like to be financially secure and do exactly what we'd love and in spite of not being financially secure, some of us still enjoy or enjoyed the work we did. I think the bigger picture here is, we aer working. :D We aren't asking for a free ride in life and I think that's the main thing with working. As for working at home, some of my health issues don't really allow for that, but should any of my health issues ever improve, I'd definitely go for that or even back in the regular work-force.

I think your work sounds very interesting and being out in the fresh air is probably a great benefit, rather than being stuck within four walls for 8+ hours a day. :)

I do enjoy working outside more than working indoors(I was a retail manager before getting into The Green industry, managing shoe stores for Thom McAn here in Atlanta, and in Hickory, NC-I also ran a Florsheim store in Atlanta for a year in 1995-these mall shoe stores closed en masse due to the proliferation of Shoe Carnivals and Payless Outlets, hence the need for my career shift). Working outside isn't easy-it is very arduous and often I can get very dirty. I have mild arthritis in my feet, achy knees in cold weather(from running Cross country and playing football in HS), and I get tension headaches a lot. I carry a small kit in my truck with medicinals, OTC stuff I can take to keep me going. I'm sure you can relate to all of this. I quit smoking 7 years ago(I smoked on and off for about 12 years), quit my smokeless tobacco habit, and have cut back on my beer consumption to practically nil. I do what I can to keep going. Always forward I like to say. Never very fast, but forward. I hope, KF, that you can re-enter the workforce some day. And thanks for sharing this info about yourself here. :)

I work at a Jo-Ann Fabrics superstore. My mom has had a job there for a while, and last summer I hopped on the bandwagon too. Officially I work in recieving, but I do more random stuff than anything else.

I'm still in High School though, but I plan do study Biology in college. No idea where I want to go yet. I also am thinking about a career in syndicated cartooning.

I do periodic yardwork on the side for a woman whose husband is an employee of The Cartoon Network. He works, I believe, as a writer. He told me the cartoon business can be lots of hours and constant pressure to make deadlines. He also told me it is alot of fun. You mention studying biology in college. If you do that would you use a Biology degree to jump off into medical school? I do not know much about biology(obviously), which is why I ask. The few guys I knew in college who majored in biology went on to medical school. Just curious as to what kind of doors a degree like this can open. :)

Big no. I'd rather be a teacher. I just like Biology a lot, so I think it would be a good subject to teach.

Teaching is a noble profession. From what I have read of teacher shortages in this country I think your services as a teacher would be greatly appreciated. :)

Sounds like a plan. As a veteran and former Naval officer let me tell you the U.S. Navy is a lot of hard work and also a lot of fun and travel, all at once. Good luck in your endeavors, and keep me posted as to your status, as always at your leisure sir. :D

Good luck on the summons, Pack!

The juror summons cost me a day of work(about $70) angry orange . Luckily my "group" was allowed to leave a few hours after reporting. I am, unfortunately, subject to recall. I hope it does not happen anytime soon. silver surprised

The title says it all. Post what you think is the best cable movie channel, and explain your response. All replies welcome. ---- Thread starter: I cast my vote for Turner Classic Movies, which opened my eyes(and wallet for subsequent DVD purchases tongue-1 ) to the world of "dramatic" and "epic" films. As a former junkie of sci-fi/horror/kaiju movies I am happy to say that I now watch and enjoy other types of films as well. :)

I'd have to cast my vote for, Turner Classic Movies, as well. I don't get any 'premium' channels, but TCM is wonderful for all the reasons already listed by packmule. I also enjoy the in-house specials made by TCM that showcase film stars, studios are films....some very interesting documentaries and such have been done by TCM.

No love for AMC KF? Maybe you are like me...wondering what happened to this channel, that used to show films commercial-free and letterboxed? Opinions on AMC? eyebrow

No need to feel bad. Birthdays for me are a low-key affair. I always get a few movies on DVD from two friends, this year being no different- Saw II, which I liked, and leaves open the possibility of a 3rd film, and The Devil's Reject's, another fun, and hellified(almost literally) Rob Zombie vehicle. Thanks for the birthday wish Dan-appreciated. :)

2) Fox News Channel

You ever watch Bill O'Reilly's No Spin Zone?

I'll probably get ragged on but I love Bill O'Reilly.

I like O'Reilly okay. He makes good points but can be blunt, even very brusque at times. I do not watch these political shows very much. Having said that I would rather watch this than the parody shows like The Colbert Report or shows like Bill Maher's or Lou Dobbs, the latter an individual who dedicates, IMO, an inordinately excessive amount of time to the discussion of illegal aliens in the U.S.-I think it's an important topic , to be sure, but it seems like it is the only thing ever being discussed on his show. Another show I watch periodically: Nancy Grace-a former prosecutor, she's my kind of woman-strong, opinionated, but also I think compassionate about her work. Mr Green

Jury duty, I remember the pain. It's been some time, but there were 4 trials during the time I was on jd, and guess who was picked to sit on 3 of them. Could you believe my luck!!!

Anyway, one of my pet peaves; impolite people- waiting in line at the gas station, the car at the pump has a fill up on the opposite side as I do: as I've sat there for 5 monutes or so, a car pulls up behind him, just as he is pulling away, looks in my direction, smirks, and guess who is left waiting agian!!! After waiting another 5 minutes for this rude little peacock to finish up, as he's pulling away, another older lady pulls up and follows him ;looking right at me and knowing I've waited. What gall!! It's obvious that some people need to learn what politeness is; obviously they hadn't been taught about taking turns as children. Good thing I wasn't on my way to work, and running late. I may have forgotten I was a lady, and used a few colorful metafors to show my disdain!!!! Their lucky I show a bit more self control then they... :(

I can relate to these shenanigans you mention. As someone who rides the bus frequently(I own a motorcycle but I don't ride it very often-okay because my job is only 2.3 miles from my apt) I notice, almost daily, when the bus pulls up to the passenger loading area in the AM, people haul ass to get on as quickly as possible to get a seat-many of them will sit down on the outside of the seat and place their bag on the other part of the seat beside them(taking up two seats now). Yet, in the afternoon, when the bus pulls into the station and it is time to disembark the bus, everyone takes their sweet damn time. When I ride the bus I no longer sit in any seat, I just stand. I also wait until everyone else is onboard before I get on the bus. IMO it is a very rude, very mean world that we live in. Common courtesy is no longer common, and I can see the day when it may become nonexistent. I know that there are many, many good people in this world, I just wish, at this point in my life living in this city, that I knew more than two of them.

Where do you hang out on the internet? Do you have several internet locales you frequent regularly, or do you surf endlessly(and aimlessly tongue-1 ) throughout cyberspace? Post your favorite internet "hangouts" here. Post your browser favorites or bookmarks here, or just talk about the sites that you regularly visit.
Thread starter-Packmule's: Being a news and sports junkie I browse sites like MSN.com and Yahoo.com daily. I also frequent the tech downloads sites fairly frequently, e.g. PC Advisor. Finally, there are the kaiju discussion boards that I monitor frequently(if not daily): Toho Kingdom, Monster Zero, It Came From Planet X, Kaiju Galaxy, and Kaijuphile.com

I used to go to Netraptor.org all the time, until I found Tohokingdom. (Netraptor.org is a Sonic the Hedgehog fan site)

I tend to visit IMDB frequently and I go to PSO-world.com alot along with GameFAQS.com and Tourettesguy.com

Besides that I usually just surf the net on Google for whatever I am interested in.

Or I use Wikipedia.org, real cool online encyclopedia it is.
