For those who enjoy giant monster movies be sure to check out THE MEG, opening in theaters on August 10th, 2018. This film, based on the 1997 book "Meg", written by Steve Alten, features an enormous, 75 foot long Megalodon shark! Other giant monster movies that we fans can look forward to: GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS(in 2019) and GODZILLA VS KONG in 2020! PACIFIC RIM-UPRISING(2018), the sequel to 2013's "Pacific Rim", is about to release to Ultra 4k and Blu Ray. In these movies, 250 foot tall robots defend Earth from an assault of other worldly giant monsters(kaiju).

As is the case so often down here in Atlanta, GA the weather changed rapidly and today was fairly cold, with the temperature topping out at 48 degrees-with a blustery wind it felt a hell of lot colder than that. freak out

It's supposed to be in the low 30's/high 20's at night the rest of the week and beyond. I guess "Old Man Winter" finally showed up. cheeky sick smiley

My official "End of 2007 HD TV" savings drive officially started on 1/1/07. The goal: save up, independent of my other savings, about $1000, in order to buy, at the end of 2007, an HD television, either a 34" widescreen flatscreen, a 36" flatscreen, or a 37" widescreen flatscreen. So far I have put aside $122.50. Only $878.50 to go. tongue-1

Though not a Yankees fan I do respect the traditions, and on field success, of this storied franchise. They have certainly had more than their fair share of great players over the decades: George Herman "Babe" Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Mickey Mantle, Roger Maris, Yogi Berra, Reggie Jackson, Thurman Munson, Don Mattingly, etc.

For the record, I am a Braves fan. tongue-1

My Granddad became a Braves fan in his later years. I asked my Dad about this and he said he thinks Granddad became a fan, when TBS became available in these parts. Gave Granddad an opportunity to cheer on someone other than the Mets, who I believe he also liked.

The Braves are a great team, so many times they were so close to winning it all, just to come up a wee bit short. What year was in.....'96, when the Braves won 2 games at Yankee Stadium and lost the next 4? Not a good memory for you, as a Braves fan, but one great Series.

The '96 series was sickening to all Braves fans-in fact I believe there was a temporary shortage of Pepto Bismol and Alka Seltzer in all the local Atlanta pharmacies after this brutal(for Atlanta that is) series.(just kidding by the way) After the Braves blasted the Yankees in the first two games of this series, and on the road, people here in Atlanta were talking "sweep". Who in the hell would have imagined that the Braves would proceed to lose every game at home? freak out This series loss is still, in my mind, the greatest series collapse by a team in the baseball postseason, with only the Yankees losing four in a row to the BoSox(after being up 3-0 in their series). thumbs down

I spent the better part of today cleaning out leaves and unwanted ivy from some front, and large planting beds at my friend's house. I keep telling him to hire a professional landscape company to properly maintain his property, which is medium-sized but extremely "woody". Translation: lots and lots of trees, and there is always various tree "litter" on his property-leaves, pine cones, sticks, fallen limbs, etc.-His property is more than I can handle, truthfully, but he refuses to hire any landscape company to service his residence. beating the admin

Interestingly enough, I learned from my landlord, Mrs. C., yesterday while chatting with her that her neighbor across the street, who's also my boss's mother-in-law, was just diagnosed with gout in her big toe. freak out

With you offering your help, as well, sounds as if Mrs C is covered very nicely by some great people.

One of the problems regarding Mrs. C's assistant, hired from an agency that specializes in placing these assistants in elderly citizen's homes, is that her assistant, a married young woman with two children of her own, is sometimes unable to come over and perform her job duties for my elderly landlord, usually because her kids are sick and she has to attend to that first, before helping Mrs. C. My landlord is often frustrated by this, but is loathe to request another assistant from this agency because she is very fond of her current assistant-the two have been together for over five years. eyebrow

Hell being handy and good at what you do for a living.....do a lot of friends rely on you to help maintain their property? I have some family and friends that are good at things...cutting hair, fixing small house repairs, etc and it seems someone is always asking for their help.

Change isn't always easy for some, especially the elderly..they kind of get comfortable with something or someone and the thought of a change terrifies them. I'm kind of the same way, myself. I won't refuse a change, but I don't always adapt as quickly as I probably should. freak out

Wow! We're actually getting some of the white stuff! freak out It started with snow showers, yesterday and while we may have gotten an inch, it's nothing horrible or extreme. It was still snowing, lightly, this AM when Carol was leaving for work. She has to be to work between 4:30AM--4:45AM, so I suddenly woke to this odd sound. Looked out the window and there's Carol, sitting in my Tracker, but not going anyplace! I jump up, throw some clothes on and open the front door and she's struggling to get it in 4WD. I went out, asked if she had it in Neutral before trying and she said, yes, right about that time, it popped in and off she went. She said that PennDot was out spraying this solution on the roads, last night. I guess it's supposed to help in not allowing snow to accumulate on the roads. She said the roads were just wet on the way in, so hopefully, it will continue to work.

Been so mild most of this Winter, it's weird to have it quite cold and snowy. Supposed to get even colder, this weekend, with highs only in the teens.

do a lot of friends rely on you to help maintain their property?
As recently as 2002 I did weekend yardwork(mostly pruning, spraying, and leaf control) for six different people. I was tired all the time, including my regular work days(M-F). I scaled back to two people, both close friends, who both make a lot of $ but don't have the time to keep up their properties by themselves. In a 52 week year I probably work about 15 Saturdays and about 10 Sundays now. Most of my side work is in the Spring(April-May)(pruning) and during the late Fall(Nov-Dec)(leaf control). I make, in an average year, from side work, about $700-$800 per year, cash. I used to make more than twice this, but I just couldn't physically handle it, and my day job, together. confused

Believe me it's way too painful for my liking as well. freak out

The long term effects of gout in the foot/toe are well-documented, and it ain't pretty: many of the crystals(from the uric acid buildup) can solidify with time and repeated gout attacks, gradually becoming physical deformities on the toe and/or foot, with surgery required to remove them. freak out

It's been much colder down here in Atlanta as well-only in the low 40's during the day and low/mid 30's at night, with stiff winds every day. This is typical January weather for Atlanta, GA-raw, windy, overcast, and in the 40's during the day.

There are Braves fans everywhere. My father was a huge Braves fan. Thank God he lived long enough to see them win the World Series in 1995-he and I were sitting in his livingroom watching this game and hooted and hollered when the Braves won it. Mr Green

I agree. One of Mrs. C's daughters constantly tries to get my landlord to sell her house and move into a convalescent home. Mrs. C could easily get one million dollars for her house, but she doesn't want to sell the house because it's her home, and where she has lived for decades. I understand how she feels.

Not a bad bit of change for side work! You were wise to cut back, as it's definitely not worth the extra $ flow, if you wear yourself out and possibly risk getting ill because of the overwork.

I wondered if there might be a need for surgery, following repeated gout attacks.

Yes and no, Lee. No help seems to be available, in fact, when I bgan responding to this question, the computer shut down, restarted and then did it, again. We've been told that there's no help for this, so all I can do is try and baby this along and hope it can last, until I can get another. :( So, should I disappear in mid-sentence, I may or may not be back for a bit!
